  • Patent number: 5481382
Abstract: A method is provided for transmitting and receiving image data having plural pixel data. The method comprises the step of producing image control data for controlling the image data to be transmitted. The plural pixel data is represented by n color components, and pixel data represented by n+m color components is produced for sequential transmission on the basis of the pixel data represented by the n color components. The image control data are transmitted for a period of time when the pixel data represented by the n color components are not provided in the period of time when pixel represented by n+m color components are transmitted. An image process is executed for either the pixel data represented by the n color components or the pixel data represented by the n+m color components on the basis of the image control data.

  • Patent number: 5146222
Abstract: A coding unit for coding an audio signal by using an adaptive orthogonal transformation and a coding method comprises calculating the sum total of power of an input audio signal in a time duration of an orthogonal transform length or over the length, adaptively controlling the minimum audible level as a threshold level corresponding to the power level on a frequency axis after the orthogonal transformation or on a time axis before the orthogonal transformation, excepting samples having a power level under the threshold level from orthogonally transformed samples and quantizing remaining samples. The threshold level of the minimum audible level is adaptively controlled corresponding to an observed level of an input audio signal. Even if the input audio signal has various power levels, it is possible to usually set the adaptively audible value (the threshold level), thereby effectively reducing a coding amount.

  • Patent number: 5103485
Abstract: The invention relates to a pattern information reading apparatus in which pattern information such as characters or figures is read and stored in a memory and, thereafter, the stored pattern information is converted into tactile information and output as necessary. The apparatus has means for adjusting a moving speed of the pattern information which is output as tactile information. The apparatus is fitted to the reading capability of the user by such an adjustment. The apparatus also has means for comparing to see if the information which has been read at a preceding time point coincides with the information which was read at the present time point or not with respect to the pattern information such as characters or figures. By updating the different read information, the amount of storage data can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 5079547
Abstract: There is provided the method of orthogonal transform coding/decoding to quantize/de-quantize transformed coefficients which are divided into a plurality of bands to which respective different numbers of coefficient are allotted. Quantization/de-quantization tables are arranged on the basis of a probability density function of the coefficient values designed on the assumption of a specified number of coefficients so as to correspond to the number of quantization/de-quantization bits. The values in the quantization/de-quantization tables selected according to the number of quantization/de-quantization bits are adaptively compensated on the basis of an actual number of coefficients on each band to quantize/de-quantize the coefficient values.
