  • Patent number: 5634808
Abstract: A waterproof packing is axially compressed between a pair of female and male connectors in intimate contact therewith to form a liquid-tight seal between the two connectors. An axial thickness T1 of a radially outward portion of a compression portion of the packing which can be compressed between the two connectors is smaller than a thickness T2 of a radially inward portion thereof. With this construction, the radially-outward bulging or deformation, caused by the axial compressive deformation, proceeds progressively from the radially inward portion, so that the radially-outward bulging or deformation can be suppressed to a low level.

  • Patent number: 5603642
Abstract: A flat rectangular rear holder having groovelike wire inserting parts and a thickness. On a side surface of the rear holder are retaining projections for retaining a housing and a releasing hole for inserting a releasing jig. The rear holder is engaged with the housing that has a plurality of terminal accommodating chambers on a rear end thereof and retaining holes corresponding to the retaining projections along the peripheral wall thereof. With the rear holder engaged with and retained by the housing, an upper end part of the rear holder is projected from the rear end of the housing, so that the upper part of the releasing hole is exposed. This exposed part has an opening area so large as to allow a rear holder releasing jig to be inserted thereinto.

  • Patent number: 5601449
Abstract: A rear holder cover of a waterproof connector is provided which remains secured to a connector housing despite being subjected to substantial external forces. The rear holder cover contains a rear cover which is inserted in a connector housing and a plurality of hinge connection portions each having a first end and a second end. The first end of each of the plurality of hinge connection portions is connected to the rear holder, and the second end of each of the plurality of hinge connection portions is connected to a plurality of half covers. The plurality of hinge connection portions are flexible such that the plurality of half covers are pivotally movable in a direction perpendicular to a direction of insertion of the rear holder into the connector housing. Furthermore, each of the plurality of half covers comprises a projection portion and a projection receiving portion.

  • Patent number: 5586916
Abstract: A waterproof cover for a connector includes a rear holder portion attached to a rear portion of a connector housing to hold terminals inserted into terminal insertion holes of the connector housing from a rear side of the connector housing; and a waterproof cover portion attached to a rear side of the rear holder portion to cover wires extending rearward from the terminals. The waterproof cover has a pair of first and second cover halves; a hinge for linking a pair of the first and second cover halves so as to be opened and closed relative to each other; and a lock mechanism for locking a pair of the first and second cover halves when the two cover halves are closed. In particular, a front end surface of the first cover half is formed integrally with an outer circumference of the rear holder portion so as to form an end surface plate of the first cover half along roughly all over the circumference of the first cover half.

  • Patent number: 5586897
Abstract: A waterproof connector (1) comprises: a connector housing (30) having an opening (5) engaged with a mated connector housing; a packing (10) disposed within the opening of the connector housing, for sealing a space between the two mated connector housings, at least one part (10a) of the packing being exposed outside through at least one hole (12) formed in the connector housing; and a protective cover (40) selectively attached to the connector housing from the outside at need, for covering at least one exposed part (10a) of the packing according to the required degree of connector waterproof characteristics. The protective cover is preferably formed of a hard plastic resin and preferably formed with locking elements (48, 50) locked with other locking elements (28, 28a) formed in the connector housing.

  • Patent number: 5554051
Abstract: A double-lock type connector includes a housing having a pair of locking lances for locking a terminal, and a holder having a pair of locking arms for locking the terminal when inserted into the housing. The housing has a pair of guide paths into which the pair of locking arms advance, and a pair of paths continuous with the pair of guide paths. While the holder is in the temporarily locked position where the locking arms are out of engagement with the terminals, a lance-unlocking tool is inserted into the housing form an opening on one side of the housing and an arm-unlocking tool is inserted into the housing from an opening on the other side of the housing. Thus, the locking lances and locking arms are both out of engagement with the terminal. The locking arms are at the guide paths when the holder is in the temporarily locked position. The arm-unlocking tool has a pair of prongs that goes into contact with the pair of locking arms when inserted into the housing.

  • Patent number: 5356317
Abstract: Disclosed is a multi-terminal connector for use in connecting wire harnesses and the like. The multi-terminal connector is capable of improving operability and reliability in the process of inserting a terminal by achieving smooth insertion of the terminal while arranging a terminal guiding surface on an inner wall of a terminal accommodating chamber. A terminal guiding surface that is inclined is arranged on a ceiling of a terminal accommodating chamber of a connector housing. When a terminal is inserted slightly obliquely, a holding portion of the terminal comes in contact with the terminal guiding surface to automatically correct the direction of advance of the terminal, thereby preventing defective insertion such as the terminal being caught in the terminal accommodating chamber.

  • Patent number: 5350309
Abstract: A connector with a protective cover for exposed electrical terminals. The connector includes a housing having an opening formed on one side thereof through which electrical contacts of terminals are exposed. The protective cover includes an insulating protector for covering the opening of the connector and a housing holder detachably assembled to the housing. The insulating protector has a protective plate and two arms extending in the same direction from the longitudinal ends of the protective plate. Each of the arms has a projection and is rotatably assembled at distal end thereof to the housing holder. The housing holder has a closing-position locking groove and an opening-position locking groove, which are provided about rotating axis of the arms and angularly spaced apart from each other.

  • Patent number: 5267878
Abstract: A connector at the end of a shielding cable which includes braid wire surrounding individual internal insulated wires enables superior retention of the braid wire when the braid wire is folded back to expose the individual wires. In one embodiment, the braid wire is folded back over a tapered portion, and is held over that portion in press contact. In another embodiment, the braid wire is passed over threads on a tubular body surrounding an outer insulating layer of the shielding cable, and is retained there by an internally-threaded tubular terminal.
