  • Patent number: 5964195
Abstract: A water-cooled type internal combustion engine includes a cylinder provided in a cylinder block of an engine body and having a piston slidably received therein, and a cooling water passageway defined in the engine body and including a cooling water portion surrounding the cylinder. In the water-cooled type internal combustion engine, a through-bore is provided at that portion of an outer wall of the engine body which faces the cooling water passageway, a vibration absorbing means is mounted to the outer wall surface of the engine body to close the through-bore. The vibration absorbing means includes a resilient membrane which is disposed so that its peripheral edge does not protrude from an inner surface of the outer wall into the cooling water passageway, and which has one surface facing the cooling water passageway and the other surface facing a space area.

  • Patent number: 5779231
Abstract: A mounting member fixed to an engine and a mounting member fixed to a vehicle body are interconnected by a hollow elastomeric block which has a variable-volume primary fluid chamber defined therein. A subsidiary fluid chamber having a diaphragm on a portion of an outer wall thereof communicates with the primary fluid chamber through two fluid passages. A movable plate forming a portion of the outer wall of the primary fluid chamber is connected to a voice coil motor, and by one example, is driven at the same phase as a vibration applied from the engine. During a normal traveling, both the fluid chambers communicate with each other through the fluid passage having a smaller length. During idling or during a low speed traveling, a switch-over valve is operated to permit both the fluid chamber to be put into communication with each other through the fluid passage having a larger length.

  • Patent number: 5386372
Abstract: A plurality of pulse signals (trigger signals) responsive to driving of a power plant are directly supplied to respective adaptive control circuits each having an adaptive digital filter for controlling components of periodic or semi-periodic vibrations and noises ascribed to related component parts of a vibration/noise source. Further, the adaptive control is performed while varying a sampling frequency in response to changes in parameters of operating conditions of the power plant. Optionally, a control signal from the adaptive digital filter is corrected for gain. Further, periodic signal-eliminating means is provided for determining a transfer characteristic of a system to which the adaptive control is applied, based on a residual component signal from the periodic signal-eliminating means, a random signal having a low amplitude level, etc.

  • Patent number: 5238232
Abstract: A self-expanding mount controls transmission of vibration of a vibration source to a base. A main liquid chamber is defined between a resilient member fixed to the vibration source or the base and a casing fixed to the base or the vibration source. A metallic bellows is driven in response to a first control signal corresponding to vibration of the vibration source, to cause a variation in the pressure of liquid within the main liquid chamber. This variation in the liquid pressure causes contraction and expansion of the resilient member to thereby control the transmission of vibration of the vibration source to the base. A magnetostrictive element is resiliently deformed in response to a second control signal corresponding to the vibration of the vibration source, to change spacing between the vibration source and the base.

  • Patent number: 4614255
Abstract: A hydraulic shock absorber for vehicles including inner and outer cylinders, and a casing defining an oil chamber therein. The oil chamber is arranged to be in communication with the interior of the inner cylinder. A gas chamber hermetically defined by an elastic metal membrane and having a predetermined volume of gases confined therein is disposed in the oil chamber. The arrangement provides desirable damping characteristics in a substantially low damping force range as well as in an inherent or preset damping force range.
