  • Patent number: 6892111
Abstract: Functional blocks (a numerical control unit 22, servo control unit 26, PLC control unit 24, sizing control unit 23, sampling control unit 25, and display control unit 21) carry out their respective functions of control processing. Numerical control data, PLC control data, and sizing data as details of numerical control processing, PLC control processing, and sizing processing, respectively, are sampled and recorded by sampling control processing. The three kinds of recorded data are displayed together on one display unit 80 by display control processing when a display instruction is given by an operator of a control system 10 through an input control unit 90. Thus, an operator of the control system 10 can carry out the work of tracing the cause of the trouble of a machine tool 70 and of examining efficient machining processes of the machine tool 70 by simultaneously watching the control data displayed on one display unit 80. This provides a control system of the machine tool that can improve workability.

  • Patent number: 5477118
Abstract: A numerical controller for a grinding machine, wherein one of plural reference sizing points is selected according to the contents of a numerical control program. Measured analog data indicating the diameter of a workpiece is received continuously to determine if the size of the machined workpiece coincides with the selected reference sizing point. Upon the coincidence of the size of the machined workpiece with the reference sizing point, a sizing signal is provided, and then machining control is changed in response to the sizing signal. An analog signal provided by a measuring device is sampled at a predetermined interval in a predetermined time. The analog signal is tested to see if the analog signal is in a predetermined range, which is decided based upon the temperature variation or vibrations of the grinding machine. And the result of the test is displayed to facilitate checking the output characteristics of the measuring device.

  • Patent number: 5271187
Abstract: An apparatus capable of automatically determining grinding wheel dressing timing for dressing a grinding wheel. The apparatus estimates the abrasion of the grinding wheel in a grinding cycle on the basis of machining data and grinding conditions, and divides the grinding cycle into a plurality of stages according to the estimated abrasion to carry out grinding wheel dressing after the completion of every stage of the grinding cycle. In grinding a workpiece having a plurality of ground sections, the abrasion of the grinding wheel in grinding each ground section is estimated, and the abrasion is accumulated in accordance with grinding sequence. A ground section after grinding which grinding wheel dressing is to be carried out is determined on the basis of the cumulative abrasion. Similarly, the abrasions are accumulated for each of workpieces. A grinding wheel dressing is carried out after the completion of grinding a workpiece so that the cumulative abrasion may not exceed a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4848038
Abstract: A grinding method for grinding non-circular workpiece such as a cam. The grinding wheel is moved according to the profile data defining profile generating movement of grinding wheel and cut-in feed data defining cut-in feed movement of the grinding wheel. In a part of each revolution of the workpiece, where the acceleration of the profile generating movement become zero or a negative value, the profile generating movement according to the profile data and the cut-in feed movement according to the cut-in feed data are executed simultaneously. Then, in the remainder of each revolution, the profile generating movement is executed without cut-in feed. The above-mentioned process is repeated alternately until the total amount of cut-in feed reaches a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4815000
Abstract: A numerical controller is provided wherein each time one data block of a numerical control program is transferred from a second buffer register to an active register, another data block successive thereto is transferred from a data storage device to a first buffer register and wherein a plunge infeed between a cylindrical workpiece and a grinding wheel of a grinding machine is effected in accordance with data block being stored in the active register. The numerical controller halts an automatic machining operation in response to a halt command of a data block in the active register. Compensation data is input during the halt of the automatic machining operation whereafter a restart command is input. The numerical controller modified feed command data of the numerical control program stored in the data storage device, based upon the compensation data.

  • Patent number: 4648025
Abstract: A numerical controller for a grinding machine is provided with a memory device, a data processor, a data input device, a display device and a manual pulse generator. After the setting positions of a grinding wheel carrier, a tail stock and the like of the grinding machine are changed in connection with the replacement of a grinding wheel with new one and the change in kind of workpieces, the input device is manipulated to display a desired one of images on the display device. The manual pulse generator is then operated to move components such as the grinding wheel carrier and a work table to a state indicated by the displayed image, and a storage command switch of the input device is depressed. In response to this depression, the data processor reads the present positions of the components in the state displayed on the display device and calculates based upon the read present positions data which is used in numerically controlling a machining operation of the grinding machine.

  • Patent number: 4510719
Abstract: A method of grinding a curved corner portion of a workpiece by a grinding wheel having a curved edge surface whose radius is smaller than that of said curved corner portion. The grinding wheel is movable along a path extending at an acute angle to the axis of rotation of the workpiece. First, the grinding wheel is relatively moved to a first grinding start position. Then, the grinding wheel is moved inwardly to an advanced position along the path so as to perform a plunge grinding operation, and is subsequently retracted to the grinding start position. After that, the grinding wheel and the workpiece are relatively moved so as to move the grinding start position to the next grinding start position along a curved arc which is in parallel with the curved corner portion of the workpiece. The above plunge grinding operation is repeatedly performed from each grinding start position thereby grinding the curved corner position.

  • Patent number: 4502125
Abstract: A numerical controller for an angular slide grinding machine capable of controlling movement of a work table with a dressing tool in a machine coordinate system in a dressing operation and a workpiece coordinate system in a grinding operation. When the work table is initially moved to such a position as to bring the dressing tool into slight contact with an end surface of a grinding wheel carried by a wheel head, the numerical controller calculates and stores a dressing reference value indicating a positional relation between a fixed machine origination position and the dressing tool in the machine coordinate system. Prior to grinding operations for each workpiece, the work table is moved under the control of a sizing device to such a position as to present a reference surface of the workpiece to a predetermined positional relation with the original machine position.
