Abstract: In the context of a structure wherein outer casing(s) is/are disposed so as to permit opening and closing about shaft(s), stopper member(s) and engagement piece(s) engaging with such stopper member(s) being disposed at such outer casing(s) so as to permit independent displacement in pivoting fashion about shaft(s) for each thereof, one end(s) of arm member(s) is/are supported by outer casing(s) so as to permit displacement in pivoting fashion, and shaft(s) of stopper member(s) is/are secured to other end(s) of such arm member(s). In addition, when bottom region(s) of stopper member(s) in engaged state(s) with engagement piece(s) abuts or abut and is/are pressed upward by original(s) loaded in original tray(s) during closing of outer casing(s) which had at least immediately prior thereto been in open state(s), this causes other end(s) of arm member(s) to be displaced upward in pivoting fashion, in accompaniment to which stopper member(s) is/are lifted upward.

In a feeding state, the sheet lifting plate rises and disengages from the operating fraction so that the movable sheets separating unit moves to a pressing position where the separating pad is pressed against the feeding roller. In the pressing position, the separating pad is pressed against the feeding roller via a rotatable support base by a pressing spring, and is displaced by rotation in a direction away from the feeding roller in accordance with a thickness of a sheet S passing through between the separating pad and the feeding roller. Thus, durability of the separating pad can be improved, and a feeder suitable for a fixing type feeding cassette can be provided.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: a cabinet cover unit having a control panel; an optical system-incorporating unit incorporating a scanner portion for optically reading the information of originals and having a separation roller for feeding originals to a cover glass of the scanner. This optical system-incorporating unit is provided in an openable and closable manner so that the interior of the apparatus body can be exposed when it is opened with respect to the apparatus body. The cabinet cover unit can be opened and closed with respect to the optical system-incorporating unit so that the optical system-incorporating unit will be exposed when it is opened.

Abstract: A printer with a printhead pressure adjusting mechanism including a thermal head, a platen drum, an adjusting mechanism, a detection device [e.g., switch(es)] and a control unit. The thermal head transfers ink of an ink ribbon onto recording paper by heat generation. The platen drum sandwiches the ink ribbon and the recording paper under pressure together with the thermal head. The adjusting mechanism adjusts the pressure being applied to the thermal head when pressing the thermal head. The detection device detects the size of the recording paper. The control unit controls the adjusting mechanism in order to adjust the pressure being applied to the thermal head in accordance with the detected size of the recording paper.
