Abstract: When a specified type of communication data is received by a specified interface, the communication data is processed into intermediate data based on a sheet-saving print format. Upon receiving print command, an image forming device executes sheet-saving printing for forming a compressed image based on the intermediate data. Because a relatively large amount of communication data can be printed out on a single page in this way, wasting of recording medium can be prevented.

Abstract: A character printer is designed to initiate the routine of test mode processing when the printer is turned on, with its TEST key being kept pressed. The routine initially sets 0 to the argument N, which represents the test mode number, and the program proceeds to Test Mode Display subroutine. The operator presses the down key, up key or SET key to select an intended test mode among multiple test modes, and the test program of the selected test mode is executed by a Test Program Execution subroutine.

Abstract: A date checking system optionally attached to a host device like a typewriter has two buffers, a predetermined cut-out rule and a dictionary ROM. A data queue from the host device is temporarily stored in one of the buffers, and then one word is cut out therefrom by cut-out codes like a space or punctuation mark to be stored in another buffer, where the word is locked up in the dictionary ROM to determine if the spelling thereof is correct.

Abstract: A printer having a bi-directional shortcut printing function, in which a printing pause line or a last line of previously stored text is identified and character data of the printing pause line or last print line is always printed in the normal direction. Since a carriage stops at the position where the last character of the printing pause line or last line is printed, it is effective to subsequently continue printing characters input by manual typing from that position in real time.

Abstract: The present electronic typewriter executes a spelling check control and, more specifically, judges whether or not a word in a dictionary memory identical to an inputted word exists. If a word does not exists, the word printing operation or sweep display of this word is automatically interrupted by a central processing unit. The present invention further provides an electronic typewriter wherein the operator is freed of the spelling check task and high-speed key-in operation can be achieved by preventing misspelled words from being printed.

Abstract: A printing apparatus having a first memory which stores as one unit 8-bit data comprising first data of 6 bits and second data of 2 bits, the first data comprising position data which correspond respectively to printing types formed on the circumference of a rotary printing wheel and which are divided into plural groups, the position data being different from one another in each of the groups and including data common to the groups, the second data being indicative of the urging strength of each printing type when urged against the printing medium; a second memory which stores data for distinguishing between groups to which externally provided character data belong, the second memory storing such distinguishing data for each printing type; and an 8-bit CPU which, in accordance with an externally provided character data, reads out position data and impact data corresponding to that character data from the above first and second memories.
