  • Patent number: 5584882
Abstract: The antithrombotic intraocular lens of the present invention carries a fibrinolytic substance conjugatedly immobilized on its surface and, as such, lyses insoluble proteins such as fibrin deposited on the lens surface from the blood and exudate after implantation to fully retain its lens function. Furthermore, the present invention inhibits adhesion of the lens to the surrounding tissues and contributes to accelerated recovery after operation. The present invention further provides a simple method for immobilizing a fibrinolytic substance by conjugation on the surface of a variety of lens materials including silicones. Moreover, because the fibrinolytic substance is immobilized only to the surface of the lens material, the dynamic and optical properties of the intraocular lens are not adversely affected.

  • Patent number: 5360415
Abstract: An anti-infective catheter on which a layer of a water absorbing polymer is formed. Since the layer of the water absorbing polymer swells by absorbing body fluid in subcutaneous tissue, space between the inserted catheter and its peripheral skin moiety is filled quickly, thus preventing penetration of pathogens in the living body along the wall of the catheter. The anti-infective catheter of the present invention can be inserted in the living body easily without forming a site for the arrangement of a cuff and can prevent penetration of pathogens immediately after its insertion without affecting peripheral tissue.

  • Patent number: 4764466
Abstract: A fibrinolytic enzyme immobilized on a carrier is stabilized by treating the surface of the carrier on which the enzyme is immobilized with a basic amino acid. The amino acid is preferably histidine, arginine or lysine. Carriers may be inorganic materials, natural polymeric materials or synthetic polymeric materials, in a variety of forms. Fibrinolytic enzymes immobilized include plasmin, brinase, urokinase, streptokinase and tissue plasminogen activator. The stabilized immobilized fibrinolytic enzyme maintains activity better during storage or sterilization.

  • Patent number: 4696916
Abstract: The present invention is an intravenous nutrient which contains a fatty acid ester of carbohydrate and water. The nutrient fluid contains a carbohydrate component and a fat component, has an excellent stability in solution, and is used in nutrient fluid therapy for individuals who cannot take food orally. The nutrient fluid is especially suitable as a high calorie intravenous nutrient.

  • Patent number: 4378803
Abstract: A process for producing an antithrombogenic vinyl acetate polymer or a hydrolyzate thereof which comprises treating the vinyl acetate polymer or hydrolyzate with a solution of a fibrinolytic enzyme so as to fix the fibrinolytic enzyme to the polymer. The resulting antithrombogenic vinyl acetate polymer or hydrolyzate is advantageously used in a material which comes into contact with the blood in use and is especially useful in a surgical tube.

  • Patent number: 4378435
Abstract: A process for providing enzyme activity to the surface of an article is described, comprising forming a film on the surface of the article, said film comprising an acid anhydride group-containing polymer and a polyol, wherein the acid anhydride groups are partially reacted with the polyol, and thereafter reacting the unreacted acid anhydride groups with an enzyme. Such an article provided with enzyme activity on the surface can be used for the production of food, medicines, etc., and as a medical material.

  • Patent number: 4273873
Abstract: Antithrombogenic polymeric materials are prepared by bonding a synthetic fibrinolytic compound or a combination of a synthetic fibrinolytic compound and a fibrinolytic enzyme to a polymeric material. Bonding is preferably by covalent or ionic bonding. The antithrombogenic polymeric materials are useful for preparing various types of medical articles that come into contact with blood.
