  • Patent number: 8825305
Abstract: The invention provides an effective technique for appropriately restraining a vehicle occupant at the time of a side collision of a vehicle. An occupant restraint system mounted to a vehicle comprises a camera, a side impact sensor, an acceleration sensor, an ECU, and an airbag module. The ECU changes a threshold value setting for collision velocity at the time of a side collision of the vehicle according to whether or not a colliding object involved in the side collision of the vehicle is a pole-like object, and controls the airbag module based on the set threshold value.

  • Publication number: 20130062868
Abstract: An acceleration sensor (40R) for detecting a side surface collision which occurs in a vehicle is mounted on a beam (112) of a door via a support member (50). When a force due to a collision acts on the beam (112), this force is dampened by the support member (50) and thereafter transmitted to the acceleration sensor (40R). As a result, even if the beam (112) moves at an acceleration exceeding the rated input of the acceleration sensor (40R), the acceleration of the acceleration sensor (40R) is suppressed to a level not greater than the rated input. Accordingly, the side surface collision can be detected with high accuracy without using a sensor having a high rated input.

  • Patent number: 8292324
Abstract: A side impact crash sensor that operates in conjunction with displacement of a door outer panel of a vehicle door in the event of a side impact crash. The side impact crash sensor comprises a sensor housing coupled to a vehicle door member in a sectioned region of the door and a pendulum rotates around a rotating shaft secured to the sensor housing in the event of a side impact crash. The pendulum is conductive and is housed in a housing space of the sensor housing. The side impact crash sensor further comprises a detecting section including a conductive coil energized by an alternating current secured to the sensor housing. The detecting section detects a rotation operation mode of the pendulum on the basis of a change in impedance of a conductive coil which occurs in conjunction with a rotation operation of the pendulum.

  • Publication number: 20120256405
Abstract: A control device is provided with a first collision determiner for determining a side collision to a vehicle based on velocity in a direction orthogonal to the advancing direction of the vehicle, and a second collision determiner for determining a side collision to the vehicle based on a displacement amount and displacement velocity of an acceleration sensor provided in a door of the vehicle. When the vehicle is traveling at a relatively high velocity, the control device detects a side collision to the vehicle using the determination result of the first collision determiner and the determination result of the second collision determiner. In addition, when the vehicle is traveling at a low velocity or is stopped, the control device detects a side collision to the vehicle using the determination result of the first collision determiner, without using the determination result of the second collision determiner.

  • Patent number: 8079616
Abstract: A seatbelt apparatus is provided which can constrain a passenger by ensuring removal of a slack of a lap belt when two pretensioners are activated under two different time frames. A pretensioner of a seatbelt retractor is activated first, and a shoulder belt and a lap belt are pulled in a direction toward the seatbelt retractor. Subsequently, a pretensioner of a belt anchor portion is activated and pulls a seatbelt toward the belt anchor portion, and hence a one-way tongue catches and locks the seatbelt. Accordingly, the shoulder belt is prevented from moving toward the lap belt through the tongue. Therefore, removal of the slack of the lap belt is ensured, and hence a lumber of the passenger is firmly fixed.

  • Publication number: 20110260433
Abstract: In order to precisely detect a side collision of a vehicle with a simple configuration, an air bag device has an acceleration sensor which is for detecting a side collision and which is attached to the beam of the vehicle. Hence, in comparison with a case in which a displacement sensor for detecting a side collision is used, the air bag device can have a simplified configuration. Moreover, unlike the displacement sensor, the acceleration sensor needs no adjustment of a positional relationship with a measurement target. Accordingly, the initial adjustment of the air bag device can be carried out within a short time, resulting in a reduction of a production cost of the air bag device.
