  • Patent number: 7675507
Abstract: A position detecting apparatus transmits position detecting signals from internal and external transmission coils, which are electrically connected to each other and are wound in opposite directions. The signals are transmitted to a position indicator that is housed within a pen-shaped input member. Since the internal and external transmission coils are wound in opposite directions, the position indicator can be efficiently excited in the entire area of a sensor unit including the end portion thereof. The position indicator receives the position detecting signals and transmits position indicating signals indicating a position. Sensor coils receive the signals from the position indicator. The position detecting apparatus detects the position of the position indicator based on the signals detected by the sensor coils.

  • Patent number: 7428469
Abstract: A three-dimensional-information detecting system includes a switching portion that sequentially selects sensor coils of a three-dimensional-information detecting device. Electromagnetic coupling is used to perform signal transmission and reception between the sensor coils and input coils in input elements of a three-dimensional-information inputting device which are mutually perpendicularly provided. A signal received by a selected sensor coil is detected by a detecting portion. From the detected signal, three-dimensional information, such as the position and attitude of the three-dimensional-information inputting device, is calculated by a control unit.

  • Patent number: 7423629
Abstract: A position detection system includes a position pointer and a position detector. The “blind” area in which a position pointed to by a position pointer is undetectable is minimized. A transmission coil selector selects one of a plurality of transmission coils. A signal is generated by a transmission signal generator and supplied to a selected transmission coil. The selected transmission coil transmits the signal to the position pointer. A reception sensor coil selector selects a plurality of sensor coils. A position-indicating signal transmitted from the position pointer is received by each selected sensor coil, and a position pointed to by the position pointer is calculated from the received position-indicating signals. The position detection system loop coils are part of a resonant LC transmission circuit and are excited with a pulsed carrier signal to maximize the strength of the transmission signal, while dissipating relatively little power.

  • Publication number: 20050280638
Abstract: The present invention provides a position detecting device capable of detecting a position specified by a pointing device with reliability in low voltage driving. In the position detecting device for transmitting signals from a transmitting coil included therein to a pointing device and receiving signals from the pointing device through sensor coils included therein through electromagnetic coupling to detect the specified position, a capacitor for series resonance is connected to the transmitting coil. A drive current to be supplied to the transmitting coil is controlled such that each of time kT during which the drive current in a supply-stopped state rises to a maximum amplitude, time mT during which the drive current has the maximum amplitude, and time nT during which the drive current with the maximum amplitude falls to the amplitude in the supply-stopped state is an integer multiple of the period of the drive current.
