Abstract: To provide a magnetic head, a recording/reproducing method for a tape magnetic recording medium and a rotary magnetic head mechanism. A flat head FH1 is mounted on a rotary drum DR1 capable of allowing a magnetic tape MT to run thereon, and a smooth flat surface PL1 that faces the magnetic tape MT and produces hydrodynamic interference with the magnetic tape MT is provided on a flat head FH1, and a head element HE1 that contacts the magnetic tape MT and produces magnetic interference is provided in the area where the magnetic tape MT contacts the smooth flat surface PL1.

Abstract: A stationary head type magnetic recording/reproducing system which includes a magnetic head responsible for recording/reproduction of signal to and from a running magnetic tape, and a pair of guides positioned on both sides of the magnetic head, the magnetic head having a flat slide-contact plane which comes into contact with the magnetic tape, and beveled planes at ends thereof.

A window portion is formed in a concave manner on an outer circumferential face of a rotary drum along which a magnetic tape can be wrapped. A flat head of a width smaller than that of the window portion in the advancing direction is disposed in the window portion such that a pair of channels each in the form of an air gap are formed between the opposite leading and trailing ends of the flat head and the opposite leading and trailing ends of the window portion, respectively. The flat head has an exposed smooth flat face extending perpendicularly to a diametrical direction of the rotary drum and provided at a position retracted from the outer circumferential face of the rotary drum for being opposed to and fluidically interference with the magnetic tape.

Abstract: The present invention provides a magnetic head including a plurality of magnetic head elements disposed on a head support in a direction across a magnetic tape and a plurality of connection terminals disposed on the head support, for each of the magnetic head elements, in a direction perpendicular to the signal recording surface of the magnetic tape. Even a large number of magnetic head elements can be electrically connected to an external circuit in an appropriate and simple manner.

Abstract: A pinch roller type tape drive for driving a magnetic tape on a VTR or the like comprises a capstan for driving the magnetic tape, and a pinch roller for pressing the magnetic tape against the circumference of the capstan so that the magnetic tape may not slip relative to the circumference of the capstan. The outermost layer of the pinch roller is formed of an elastic material having a hardness higher than that of rubber, which is used for forming the outermost layer of a conventional pinch roller. The pinch roller is capable of pressing the magnetic tape against the circumference of the capstan at a sufficient pressure without contacting the circumference of the capstan.
