    Abstract: A synthetic resin fuel for stable production of pig iron in a blast furnace. It is in the form of cylindrical pellets, each measuring X mm in thickness and Y mm in diameter, with X and Y satisfying the three expressions of 3.0≦X≦10, 2≦Y≦20, and Y/X≧1.5. The cylindrical pellets are produced by melting a resin, solidifying the melt, and cutting the solidified product. The cylindrical pellets should preferably contain more than 0.05 wt % of water. A process for producing pig iron in a blast furnace by blowing a synthetic resin fuel into a blast furnace through tuyeres, wherein said synthetic resin fuel is in the form of cylindrical pellets, each measuring X mm in thickness and Y mm in diameter, with X and Y satisfying the above-mentioned three expressions. The cylindrical pellets should preferably have a size distribution such that those having a diameter within ±20 % of the average diameter account for more than 70 wt %.

According to the present invention, by using no ether compound solvent (the ether compound solvent has various problems in safety) and using microgranular metallic sodium dispersed in a hydrocarbon solvent, 1-alkoxy-1-trimethylsilyloxycyclopropane can be industrially produced simply (no special apparatus is required) at an advantageous cost at a yield at least equal to that obtained when an ether is used as solvent.

    Abstract: A compact and inexpensive refractory monitoring temperature sensor and a compact and inexpensive refractory erosion location measuring device which can effect continuous detection of erosion over a wide range and specification of a location of an erosion and further can be re-used and used continuously. The temperature sensor includes at least two metal members and an insulating substance (2) filled between the metal members. The sensor detects a condition of an erosion of a refractory not from a melting breakdown of the sensor but from a variation in insulation resistance of the insulating substance which arises from a high temperature of the refractory due to erosion of the refractory. The measuring device incorporates such temperature sensor and discriminates an amount and a location of erosion of the refractory from a variation in insulation resistance between the metal members.
