Abstract: The invention relates to a hydroxyl radical scavenger and a remedy composition for a disease caused by a hydroxyl radical, which each comprise, as an active ingredient, a betaine represented by the formula (1):(CH.sub.3).sub.3 N.sup.+ (CH.sub.2).sub.n COO.sup.- (1)wherein n is an integer of 1-5, or an acid-addition salt or ester salt thereof. The betaine is useful in treating a disease caused by a hydroxyl radical, in particular, cardiopathy.

Abstract: A therapeutic agent for myocardial ischemic damages or reperfusion injuries which contains, as an active ingredient, a compound of the following formula (1), an acid addition salt thereof, or a hydrate thereof: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 to R.sup.6 are lower alkoxy groups and A and A' are lower alkylene groups; a method for treating those disorders which uses the above compound; and use of the compound in the manufacture of such a therapeutic agent. The therapeutic agent has an excellent action of recovering lowered heart functions caused by myocardial ischemia-reflow, and have low toxicity.

Abstract: An agent for treatment and prevention of asthma comprising 2-[2-phenyl-2-(2-pyridyl)]ethyl-2-imidazoline or a salt thereof as an active ingredient is disclosed.

Abstract: A method for treating diabetes comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a 2-(2,2-disubstituted)ethylimidazoline of the general formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R is a phenyl group or a 2-pyridyl group or the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof, to a patient having diabetes.
