  • Patent number: 4576132
Abstract: An increase in the amount of fuel when an engine is started or being idled is controlled on the basis of a detected intake air temperature or outside air temperature in addition to detected engine speed, intake air pressure and engine coolant temperature. Therefore, it is possible to obtain a mixture with an appropriate air-to-fuel ratio corresponding to intake air temperature in starting the engine, thus improving engine starting characteristics at low outside air temperature.

  • Patent number: 4572135
Abstract: In a carburetor in which air-to-fuel ratio is feedback controlled into a stoichiometric mixture ratio in response to oxygen sensor signals, air-to-fuel ratio is determined to a lower value to supply a rich mixture to an engine when intake air temperature and engine coolant temperature both exceed each reference value, so that engine overheat can be prevented at high temperatures. The lower air-to-fuel ratio is determined to a fixed value or to an appropriate value under consideration of intake air temperature and engine coolant temperature or additionally vehicle speed.

  • Patent number: 4497296
Abstract: A control system for an electronically controlled carburetor operative during engine start-up employs an oxygen-concentration (O.sub.2) sensor which is accurate only a given engine temperature range. Engine temperature in the vicinity of the O.sub.2 sensor is compared to a predetermined threshold to determine whether the O.sub.2 sensor is sufficiently warm. When the O.sub.2 sensor is cold, the carburetor is controlled via an OPEN LOOP method wherein the carburetor is operated at a constant state so as to produce a predetermined constant air/fuel mixture. When the O.sub.2 sensor is warm, its output is processed to determine whether the air/fuel mixture is too rich or too lean as part of a CLOSED LOOP control method in which carburetor operation is adjusted in order to correct the air/fuel ratio in accordance with the output of the O.sub.2 sensor.

  • Patent number: 4359034
Abstract: An exhaust gas recirculation control system for an internal combustion engine for removing nitrogen oxides (NOx) in exhaust gases comprises a positive pressure delay valve in a negative pressure passage for introducing intake negative pressure in the proximity of a throttle valve of a carburetor into an exhaust gas recirculation control valve to maintain the negative pressure therein during an acceleration, thereby effecting the exhaust gas recirculation even when accelerating to purify the nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas.The exhaust gas recirculation control system further comprises a positive pressure delay valve in an advance negative pressure passage for introducing the intake negative pressure in the vicinity of the throttle valve of a carburetor into a distributor and synchronized with the above positive pressure delay valve to maintain the distributor advanced, thereby keeping a good combustion of fuel mixture.
