The control unit controls the power control unit so as to satisfy a relation of VHER?Vallow?VCA?VTRR when the potential at a reversible hydrogen electrode, the standard redox potential of the aromatic compound, and the potential of the reduction electrode are expressed as VHER, VTRR, and VCA, respectively.     Abstract: A failure diagnosis system for an in-cylinder pressure sensor is provided, which includes an in-cylinder pressure sensor, a fuel injection valve, an engine controller including an engine control module and a diagnosis module. The engine control module controls the fuel injection valve to stop the supply of fuel to the engine, when a fuel cut condition is satisfied while the automobile travels. The diagnosis module includes a limiting module configured to limit an execution of the failure diagnosis of the in-cylinder pressure sensor until the diagnosis module determines that a given period has lapsed after the stop of fuel supply to the engine. The diagnosis module reads a signal of the in-cylinder pressure sensor when the given period has lapsed after the stop of the fuel supply to the engine, and diagnoses the failure of the in-cylinder pressure sensor based on the read signal of the in-cylinder pressure sensor.

In the second determination, the in-cylinder pressure sensor is diagnosed as abnormal when the performance quality of the sensor is determined to fall below the given reference value.

    Abstract: Edges of layers are detected from an input image to create a boundary line candidate image that represents the detected edges. A luminance value of the input image is differentiated to create a luminance value-differentiated image that represents luminance gradient of the layers. An evaluation score image is created which is obtained by weighting calculation at an optimum ratio between a boundary line position probability image and the luminance value-differentiated image. The boundary line position probability image is obtained from the boundary line candidate image and an existence probability image that represents existence of a boundary line to be extracted. A route having the highest total evaluation score is extracted as the boundary line. According to such an image processing apparatus and image processing method, boundary lines of layers can be extracted with a high degree of accuracy from a captured image of a target object composed of a plurality of layers.
