Patent number: 6351498Abstract: A digital modulation and demodulation scheme for radio communications which is capable of reducing errors due to fading while maintaining the characteristic of the M-ary modulation and demodulation scheme that it is robust against interferences. At the transmitting side, transmission data are divided in advance into blocks of LN bits length each and each block is divided into N sets of L bits data sequences. Then, orthogonal codes of M bits length each corresponding to L bits codes given by the L bits data sequences are generated, and N sets of orthogonal codes for each block are multiplexed into a multiplexed signal, such that M bits constituting each orthogonal code are dispersed in time in the multiplexed signal. A digital modulation is then applied to a carrier using the multiplexed signal.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1998Date of Patent: February 26, 2002Assignee: NTT Mobile Communications Network Inc.Inventors: Yasushi Yamao, Shogo Ito, Shinzo Ohkubo, Kobaruto Shimada, Fumiyuki Adachi

Patent number: 6301230Abstract: In a radio paging system wherein a user carrying a radio paging receiver is paged by means of radio waves, and the radio paging receiver sends back a response signal when it has received a paging signal addressed to itself, the response signal is sent back by means of direct sequence modulation using a code uniquely determined in accordance with the base station ID signal, which is different for each base station, and which has been inserted in the paging signal sequence transmitted from the base station, or in accordance with the order of each paging signal within the paging signal sequence. As a result, the response signal can be transmitted at low power from each radio paging receiver, and effective utilization can be made of frequency, regardless of an increase in the number of radio pagers.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1998Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Assignee: NTT Mobile Communications NetworkInventors: Shogo Ito, Takayuki Mizuki, Yasushi Yamao

Patent number: 5805076Abstract: In a mobile communications system wherein the transmission form changes in the course of the signal, high quality transmission of change information relating to the transmission form is obtained. To achieve this, information giving advance notice of a change is transmitted prior to transmitting the change information relating to the transmission form. Even if a situation arises in which transmitted information has not been conveyed without error at a scheduled change time that was notified in advance, it is possible to resolve this situation by referring to the information giving advance notice of the change. This enables faulty paging and other defects resulting from erroneous changes of transmission form to be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1996Date of Patent: September 8, 1998Assignee: NTT Mobile Communications Network Inc.Inventors: Shogo Ito, Yasushi Yamao

Patent number: 5794124Abstract: A system wherein time diversity reception is performed for each error-corrected or error-detected code word without distinguishing between the address signal and the message signal, the code words being the units which make up the address and message signals. A received signal comprising correctly decoded code words is obtained by selecting code words that are judged to have been correctly decoded in accordance with error detecting/correcting logic from among code words with the same content that have been received a plurality of times. When a code word has been correctly decoded, part of the selective radio paging receiver is inhibited from working during the time intervals when correctly received code words would be received, thereby decreasing battery consumption.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1995Date of Patent: August 11, 1998Assignee: NTT Mobile Communications Network Inc.Inventors: Shogo Ito, Yasushi Yamao, Shinzo Ohkubo

Patent number: 5760702Abstract: A receiver which receives a signal transmitted while the symbol rate is changed over from among a plurality of different values, and which varies, in accordance with the symbol rate, the pass band width of the filter that removes unwanted signals from the detector output. By compensating for changes in delay produced by alteration of the pass band width of the filter, a receiver, according to this invention, recovers a clock that is synchronized with the symbol rate after changeover, without discontinuities occurring when the symbol rate is changed over.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1996Date of Patent: June 2, 1998Assignee: Nit Mobile Communications Network Inc.Inventors: Shogo Ito, Yasushi Yamao, Shinzo Ohkubo

Patent number: 5722065Abstract: Battery saving is achieved by not receiving subframes which do not need to be received. Information regarding the time interval during which unnecessary subframes will be transmitted is inserted in a significant subframe which the base station transmits prior to this time interval, thereby notifying the radio paging receivers. The radio paging receivers detect these notification signals and stop receiving during the time interval when subframes which do not need to be received are transmitted.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1995Date of Patent: February 24, 1998Assignee: NTT Mobile Communications Network, Inc.Inventors: Shogo Ito, Yasushi Yamao

Patent number: 5231632Abstract: In radio communication equipment for use in a mobile station, provision is made for selectively applying either one of the oscillation outputs of first and second local oscillators to a transmitting part and a receiving part by first and second RF switches, respectively. In a traffic channel hand-off system for a mobile communication system in which each time the mobile station moves from a certain zone to another, its traffic channel is switched to another traffic channel of a different frequency, a control part responds to a traffic channel assigning signal from the current base station to allot an idle one of the local oscillators to the assigned channel, set the allotted local oscillator to an oscillation frequency corresponding to the assigned channel, and control the second RF switch, in an idle time of the receiving part in the current communication, to set the receiving part to the assigned channel for receiving a down link hand-off preparatory signal from a new base station.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1990Date of Patent: July 27, 1993Assignee: Nippon Telegraph and Telephone CorporationInventors: Yasushi Yamao, Yoshiaki Tarusawa, Toshio Nojima
