  • Publication number: 20030223176
Abstract: A variable capacitance element includes a coplanar line or signal conduction and a movable body, which are vertically displaced through a supporting bar and which are provided on a substrate. A movable electrode is provided between a first driving electrode and second and third driving electrodes which are movable electrodes. Voltage is applied between the movable electrodes, such that one of the movable electrodes is pressed against the coplanar line through a dielectric film. Thus, high frequency signals conducting through the coplanar line are shut off. When voltage is applied between the other electrodes, the movable electrode and the dielectric film are moved apart from the coplanar line. Thus, high frequency signals are conducted through the coplanar line.

  • Patent number: 5901031
Abstract: A reference electrode is fixed on the bottom of a concave portion of a substrate. A movable electrode is provided so that its electrode face faces that of the reference electrode at an interval to form a capacitor by the movable and reference electrodes. A driving electrode for driving the movable electrode is fixed on the substrate at an interval from the movable electrode. The distance 2L between the driving and movable electrodes is twice the distance L between the movable and reference electrodes. An external bias voltage is applied between the driving and movable electrodes to deflect the movable electrode. This doubles the range of the displacement of the movable electrode, thereby increasing the capacity change rate of the variable capacitor.

  • Patent number: 5818683
Abstract: A small variable capacitor including a movable section composed of a movable electrode supported by a supporting section. A driving electrode and a detecting electrode are provided facing the movable electrode. When an external bias voltage is applied between the movable electrode and the driving electrode, Coulomb force is generated between them. Due to that, the movable section is attracted toward the driving electrode while keeping a balance between its own resilience force and the Coulomb force. At this time, part of the movable section facing the detecting element is displaced more than the other part of the movable section facing the driving electrode. Thereby, because an electrostatic capacity between the movable section and the detecting electrode is inversely proportional to the average distance, a large electrostatic capacity may be obtained and variability of the electrostatic capacity becomes large.

  • Patent number: 5325067
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to prevent variations in sensitivity of the sensor circuits of the respective channels by equalizing the power of oscillation frequency signals to be distributed/supplied from one oscillation circuit to the sensor circuits of the respective channels. Multi-channel sensor circuits are arranged with a common oscillation circuit. A high-impedance conversion circuit is connected to the output terminal of the oscillation circuit. A first impedance matching circuit for performing impedance matching of resonance circuits of the respective channels with reference to the oscillation circuit is arranged on the output side of the high-impedance conversion circuit. Second impedance matching circuits for performing impedance matching of the oscillation circuit with reference to the resonance circuits are connected at the input terminals of the resonance circuits of the respective channels.

  • Patent number: 5198777
Abstract: Apparatus for detecting thickness which includes an electrode detecting unit including a ground electrode and a detecting electrode. The electrodes oppose each other along a paper path. An oscillating circuit provides an oscillation frequency signal. A resonant circuit, having a resonator independent of the oscillating circuit, has a resonance point which changes in accordance with a change in electro-static capacitance corresponding to a change in paper thickness detected by the electrode detecting unit. A resonant circuit outputs a detection signal corresponding to the change in resonance point. By analyzing this detecting signal, a state of two sheets of paper passing through the path is detected as a change in paper thickness.
