  • Patent number: 8127887
Abstract: A vehicle, such as a motorcycle, can include an engine, an exhaust pipe, and a silencer. The silencer can include a main body and first and second pipes. An upstream end of the first pipe can be connected to the exhaust pipe, and be provided in the main body. The second pipe can be provided apart from the first pipe on the downstream side of the first pipe, coaxially with the first pipe, and extending through a downstream lid of an outer tube of the main body. The downstream portion of the first pipe can have an inner diameter that gradually decreases from the upstream side toward the downstream end. The upstream end of the second pipe can be provided in the main body and have a larger inner diameter than the inner diameter of the downstream end of the first pipe.

  • Patent number: 7699134
Abstract: A motorcycle has an exhaust system configured to extend below the engine while providing a sufficient length and a sufficient angle of through which the motorcycle can lean. A muffler unit comprises a first muffler connected with the exhaust pipe unit and disposed between the engine and a rear wheel. The muffler unit also comprises a second muffler that is connected with the first muffler and that is disposed near the side of the rear wheel. The first muffler comprises inclined portions that are formed on the left and right sides of the first muffler when viewed from the front of the vehicle. The second muffler has inclined portions that extend at an angle approximately equal to that of the inclined portions of the first muffler.

  • Patent number: 7171804
Abstract: An exhaust system for a multi-cylinder engine can include a plurality of exhaust pipes with first upstream ends connected to exhaust openings of a multi-cylinder engine, and a collecting pipe connected to the second downstream ends of the exhaust pipes for collecting exhaust introduced from the exhaust pipes and directing it to a silencer. The collecting pipe has a front-end portion communicated to exhaust passages of the exhaust pipes, a middle portion for collecting the exhaust introduced from the front-end portion, and a rear-end portion for further collecting the exhaust introduced from the middle portion. The middle portion is provided with exhaust control means for controlling the area of the exhaust passages in accordance with engine speed.
