  • Publication number: 20120215243
Abstract: An ultrasonic surgical apparatus includes a treatment portion, a driving portion which drives the treatment portion by resonance, an operation portion main body which drives and controls the driving portion, and a connecting portion which connects the treatment portion and the operation portion main body. The driving portion includes a piezoelectric film and is formed on the treatment portion inside the connecting portion. The piezoelectric film has a perovskite structure, with crystals constituting the perovskite structure being oriented in the (100) direction or the (001) direction with a degree of orientation of not less than 60%.

  • Publication number: 20110222163
Abstract: A varifocal lens which uses an interface between a first fluid and a second fluid that are mutually immiscible, as a light refracting surface, includes: a sealed vessel in which a first chamber into which the first fluid is filled is connected via an opening to a second chamber into which the second fluid is filled; and an elastic deformation section which is provided in elastically deformable fashion in a portion of a partition wall that divides the first chamber and the second chamber in the sealed vessel and which deforms in contact with both the first fluid filled into the first chamber and the second fluid filled into the second chamber, wherein: a lens section having the interface is formed in the opening, and a focal length of the lens section is changed by causing the interface to deform through altering volumes of the first chamber and the second chamber in mutually opposite directions by deformation of the elastic deformation section.

  • Publication number: 20110204750
Abstract: An actuator includes: a diaphragm having a thickness equal to or greater than 0.5 ?m and equal to or less than 20 ?m; a piezoelectric body layer which is provided on a first surface side of the diaphragm, and receives stress from the diaphragm; a pair of electrodes which is provided on the first surface side of the diaphragm together with the piezoelectric body layer, and is mutually opposing via the piezoelectric body layer; and a stress adjusting layer which is provided on a second surface side of the diaphragm on an opposite side to the first surface of the diaphragm, and receives stress from the diaphragm in a same direction as the stress that the piezoelectric body layer receives from the diaphragm.

  • Publication number: 20110207238
Abstract: Detection of detection target substances at a sensor portion is expedited and the efficiency thereof is improved in biological substance analysis, to enable accelerated analysis with high sensitivity. A biological substance analyzing cell equipped with a reaction chamber having a sample supply space, an acoustic matching layer which is provided at a predetermined region of an inner wall of the reaction chamber that faces another inner wall, and a sensor portion provided within the reaction chamber is employed. Ultrasonic waves are emitted such that a standing wave are generated between the acoustic matching layer and the inner wall of the reaction chamber that faces the acoustic matching layer. The detection target substance is concentrated by the capturing forces of the standing waves, and the concentrated detection target substance is detected at the sensor portion.
