Abstract: A method of preparing a positive electrode active composition for use in an alkaline manganese cell comprising a negative electrode, a negative electrode active material, a positive electrode and a positive electrode composition inclusive of manganese dioxide as a positive electrode active material, an electrically conductive filler and low molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene, wherein an amount of the low molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene powder ranges from 0.1% to 0.3% by weight based on the total weight of manganese dioxide and the electrically conductive filler, which cell has small internal resistance and good discharge performance.

Abstract: A leak-proof alkaline cell comprising a positive can, a negative cap having a turned-up portion, said cap being fitted at the open end of the positive can and a gasket provided between the positive can and the negative cap, the rim of the positive can being crimped inwardly so as to press the gasket to the negative cap, the negative cap being made of a metal plate laminated with a copper layer which is adapted to be contacted with a negative electrode active material mix and the copper layer also extending to the outer surface of the negative cap facing the gasket, characterized in that the copper layer is eliminated at the ultimate terminal edge of the turned-up portion.
