  • Patent number: 7561140
Abstract: Provided is a microcapsule magnetic migration display including microcapsules arrayed on a substrate. A dispersion liquid containing an oily dispersion medium having two components of light-absorptive magnetic particles and light-reflective non-magnetic particles dispersed therein is encapsulated in the microcapsules, and positions of the two components are allowed to vertically migrate by a magnetic field. The dispersion liquid is one or two or more kinds of oily liquids having a flash point of 70° C. or more, a volume density at 15° C. of 0.75 to 0.91 g/cm3, and a dynamic viscosity at 40° C. of 7 mm2/S or less, is added with 0.5 to 8.0 wt % of non-ionic surfactant with an HLB value of 5.0 or less, and is added with solid particles having a true specific gravity exceeding 1.0 and a particle diameter of 0.1 to 30 ?m, thereby adjusting the volume density thereof at 15° C. to 1.0 to 1.2 g/cm3.

  • Patent number: 7027030
Abstract: A magnetic display has two non-magnetic substrates, at least one of which is transparent; and a microcapsule coating layer is applied between the non-magnetic substrates. The microcapsules contain and seal light-absorptive black magnetic fine particles and light-reflective non-magnetic fine particles dispersed in an oily dispersion liquid. An array layer is buried in a capsule wall of each of the microcapsules for enclosing the oily dispersion liquid that contains the light-absorptive black magnetic fine particles and light-reflective non-magnetic fine particles. The array layer includes flake-shaped particles with a multi-layered structure for converting the black color of a character or image formed on a display surface, which is a color inherently exhibited by the light-absorptive black magnetic fine particles, into a variety of interference colors.

  • Publication number: 20030098830
Abstract: A magnetic display capable of colorizing an image formed on the display surface and of solving the problem of the angle dependency of an interference color to thereby eliminate color change occurring due to different viewing angles is provided. In the magnetic display, black color that is a color inherently exhibited by magnetic particles to be provided as indispensable character, and image-forming elements is converted into a wide variety of colors without using any coloring material or the like. The magnetic display has two non-magnetic substrates, at least one of which is transparent; and a microcapsule coating layer is applied between the non-magnetic substrates. The microcapsules contain and seal light-absorptive black magnetic fine particles and light-reflective non-magnetic fine particles being dispersed in an oily dispersion liquid.

  • Publication number: 20020196217
Abstract: To provide a magnetic display in which a character or image of a black color formed of magnetic fine particles such as black iron oxide fine particles may readily be changed into a variety of interference colors with a simple structure without deteriorating a function of a conventional magnetic display. A microcapsule layer containing and sealing light-reflective non-magnetic fine particles and black magnetic fine particles dispersed in an oily liquid is coated in a space between two non-magnetic substrates at least one of which is transparent to form a display sheet, a magnetic field for forming a character or image is applied from a surface of the display with a transparent substrate side being a front surface side thereof and a magnetic field for erasing the character or image is applied from a back surface thereof so that positions of the black magnetic fine particles and the light-reflective non-magnetic fine particles within the microcapsules are inverted to thereby form the character or image.

  • Patent number: 5411398
Abstract: A magnetic display system uses a display wherein a non-magnetic substrate has applied thereon a microcapsule coating layer having sealed light-absorptive magnetic particles and light-reflective non-magnetic particles which are dispersed in an oily liquid. A permanent magnet causes a shift of the light-absorptive magnetic particles in one direction and, as a result, causing a shift of the light-reflective non-magnetic particles in the other direction. In the microcapsule coating layer, microcapsules having a plurality of diameters within a range from 100 microns to 1,000 microns are combined together. Furthermore, the light-absorptive magnetic particles sealed in the microcapsules have a plurality of particle diameters ranging from 0.2 microns to several icons. A suitable amount of magnetic particles capable of becoming a permanent magnet when magnetized after the microcapsule coating layer is coated is added.
