  • Patent number: 8059229
Abstract: A light control element capable of controlling deflection of light output through a light guide plate to a desired output viewing angle is provided. A light control element (prism sheet) has a plane of incidence on one surface thereof, and a plane of output on the other surface thereof. The plane of incidence is formed as having thereon a number of prism portions arrayed in parallel. Each of the prism portions has a first prism surface allowing incidence of light, and a second prism surface where the light entering through the first prism surface is reflected by total reflection on the inner side. The second prism surface has an outwardly-swelled curved profile, formed with a curvature that allows the light to output through the plane of output at a second output viewing angle wider than a first output viewing angle of a case where the second prism surface is flat.

  • Publication number: 20110242139
Abstract: The display driver achieves the balance between the image quality and power-cutting ratio by controlling the backlight dimming ratio to keep the image quality after backlight dimming constant. The display driver uses e.g. MSE (Mean Square Error) as an index of image quality. The reference gradation control unit controls the data decompression and backlight dimming ratios, thereby to keep the image quality after backlight dimming constant. Assuming display data decompression, and backlight dimming, the error calculating unit calculates a decrease of luminance for an input displayed image as MSE based on the decompression and dimming ratios of a preceding frame, in advance. In the case of MSE over a predetermined value, the decompression unit and light-adjustment control unit decrease the decompression and dimming ratios to below those of the preceding frame, respectively. In the case of MSE below the value, the ratios are lowered to below those of the preceding frame.

  • Publication number: 20110148953
Abstract: A display driver having a first mode where a number of colors to be displayed is smaller than a predetermined number and a second mode where a number of colors to be displayed is equal to or larger than the predetermined number. A generation circuit generates gray scale voltages having a plurality of levels for positive polarity and negative polarity. In the first mode, the generation circuit decreases a current flowing into an internal circuit which generates a gray scale voltage of an intermediate level other than two gray scale voltages of a lowest and a highest level, in comparison to a current flowing in the second mode. In the first mode, the selection circuit selects a gray scale voltage in accordance with the display data, from the two gray scale voltages of the lowest and the highest level gray scale voltage which are generated from the generation circuit.

  • Publication number: 20100214509
Abstract: A light guide plate includes a light-emitting surface, a light-reflecting surface opposed to the light-emitting surface, and a light-incident surface including a protrusion formed continuously along an edge portion of the light-emitting surface. Accordingly, light that has entered the protrusion is transmitted through the protrusion and totally reflected on an inner surface of the light-emitting surface to thus propagate inside the light guide plate. As described above, since incident light components emitted toward an upper portion of the light-incident surface can be effectively blocked by the protrusion, luminance distribution characteristics as well as a light use efficiency can be improved. The light guide plate is produced by a punching press process.
