  • Publication number: 20150273578
Abstract: A tilting gravity casting apparatus, a die includes a ladle that stores a molten metal and the molten metal is poured through a pouring gate into a cavity of the die when the die is tilted. The cavity accommodates a cylindrical protrusion for forming a closed-end hole in a bearing support portion of a knuckle, and the cavity has a pressing boss portion located along an axial line of the cylindrical protrusion. Before a die tilt step of tilting the die is completed, a press step of pressing the molten metal in the pressing boss portion by using a pressing pin and a pouring gate block step of blocking the pouring gate with a block member are initiated.

  • Publication number: 20110088866
Abstract: A valve device for gas drainage, mounted to a metal mold for die-casting, capable of selectively communicating and blocking a gas drainage path used for draining gases from a cavity of the metal mold, the device comprising: a main body in which an exhaust hole configuring a part of the gas drainage path is formed; a valve element capable of opening and closing the exhaust hole; a cylinder housing a piston coupled to the valve element; and an electromagnetic selector valve for selectively switching a supply route of a driving fluid supplied from a fluid supply source of a die-casting machine to the cylinder either to a front chamber of the cylinder or to a rear chamber of the cylinder, the front chamber and the rear chamber being partitioned by the piston. The main body includes a front face configuring a part of a parting face and a fitting portion that tightly adheres to a wall face of a housing hole, when the valve device is fitted into the housing hole opening to the parting face of the metal mold.

  • Patent number: 6601819
Abstract: A cooling probe is provided for use with a mold section having an elongate blind passage extending therein. The cooling probe is made up of an axial spool having an outer peripheral surface and an internal inlet and outlet passage. The inlet tube connects to the spool and extends into the mold blind passage. An outlet and an inlet swivel fitting telescopically sealingly cooperate with the spool outer periphery and provide outlet and inlet fluid connectors which can be freely rotated relative to the spool to facilitate easy installation and removal of the cooling probe from the mold section.

  • Patent number: 5720334
Abstract: A combination of a device for producing a closed deck type cylinder block and a sand core to be used in the device, the combination being capable of producing the block having high dimensional accuracy and eliminating precise dimensional control to the end face portion of the sand core. The sand core has a configuration identical with a water jacket formed in the engine block. Holding projections extending in an axial direction of a cylinder liner integrally protrude from a slide core of a movable die, and complementary holding bores are formed in the sand core, the bores being open at a top deck end face of the sand core. In one preferred embodiment, the top deck end face of the sand core is of a planner arrangement, and an end face of the slide core is formed with recesses for forming bridge portions therein. Casting is performed while maintaining a surface contact between the planner end face and the end face of the slide core. The contacting areas will become windows of the water jacket.

  • Patent number: 5690159
Abstract: A casting apparatus and method for producing a closed deck type cylinder block capable of facilitating removal of loose cores from the casted cylinder block. A die portion for forming a water jacket portion is formed with a plurality of notched portion having a bottom wall where a projection is provided. A pair of loose cores are fitted in each notched portion in such a manner that each parting face of the loose cores are in contact with each other. A first draft is provided at each loose cores and is mounted on the projection. In this case, the end of the parting face is placed on the projection. During casting, a molten metal is introduced into a space between the bottom wall and the first draft for forming a bridge portion. Upon solidification of the molten metal, the loose cores remain in the water jacket portion, and a bore is formed at the position corresponding to the projection.

  • Patent number: 4986338
Abstract: A gas venting arrangement in a high speed injection molding apparatus such as a high speed die casting machine. The gas venting arrangement includes a gas vent control valve which is closable at an optimum timing and at high speed. This valve closure is achievable by providing an improved combination of a control circuit and a valve driving mechanism. The control circuit is connected to a molten metal sensor and sends a high voltage output drive signal to the valve driving mechanism when the sensor detects a first molten metal or a metal splash. The valve driving mechanism includes an electromagnetic valve connected to a pneumatic source and a pneumatically operated valve connected between the electromagnetic valve and the gas vent control valve. The pneumatically operated valve is also connected to the pneumatic source. The electromagnetic valve performs prompt change-over operation upon receiving the drive signal, and supplies driving pneumatic pressure to the pneumatically operated valve.
