    Abstract: A superconducting compound cable which comprises a plurality of strands each having therein at least one filament of a superconducting compound material in the lengthwise direction of the strand, said strands being of an elliptical or flat shape in cross section, arranged in layers and stranded at a predetermined pitch in the axial direction of the cable, and the total cross-sectional area of all the strands in the cable being more than 50 percent of that of the rectangle or trapezoid circumscribed about the periphery in a cross section of the cable.
