  • Patent number: 8904306
Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for allowing a user to scroll through a list of items on a display, such as contacts, pictures, or other files, at variable speeds, which provides for fast, yet accurate scrolling. The user provides an indication to scroll through the list of items, such as pressing and dragging or flicking through the list. This indication may include a starting point and ending point at a certain location on the display. Depending on where the user provides this indication on the display, a scroll speed is determined at which to scroll through the list of items. As the indication of a scroll action progresses from one side of a display to the other, the scrolling speed increases such that the exact same scroll action corresponds to differing scrolling speeds, depending on the position of the user's indication of a scroll action on the display.

  • Patent number: 8204798
Abstract: A method and system for integrating imaging printing and communication service in a subscriber service plan. A service provider, such as a wireless carrier, will establish for a subscriber an integrated service plan that entitles the subscriber to engage in a designated quantity of communications on a recurring time period basis, such as monthly, and to also have a designated quantity of images printed on the recurring time period basis, for a designated fee. The integrated service plan will then be used as a basis to authorize communication service to the subscriber and further as a basis to authorize image prints requested by the subscriber.

  • Patent number: 8054950
Abstract: A messaging service node sends encoded messages to wireless devices prompting the devices to capture media (e.g., audio and/or image) and send the media file to a network address specified in the message. The service node may be managed by a wireless service provider, and provides this media capture message service for unrelated, independent entities such as insurance companies, health or medial companies, government agencies, etc. The encoded message may take the form of a Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) message, but other formats are possible. The media is preferably captured by a camera or microphone incorporated into the wireless device.

  • Patent number: 8001192
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating custom format messages. Upon user selection of a message-destination, application logic identifies a set of template customization data corresponding to the message-destination and uses the template customization data to customize a generalized message template, so as to produce a custom format message. Advantageously, a single messaging application can thereby be made to produce custom format messages respectively for many different message-destinations.

  • Patent number: 7945642
Abstract: A method and system for triggering installation of program logic on a machine, such as a PC. A server transmits installation-trigger logic to a wireless communication device (WCD), which the WCD stores in its data storage. When the WCD becomes connected with a PC, the PC views the WCD as a mass-storage drive, and the PC reads and executes the installation-trigger logic in the same manner that a PC would run an AUTORUN file on a conventional mass-storage drive. Per the installation-trigger logic, the PC then downloads and installs a designated software program. The PC then sends an installation-notice to the server, and the server responsively sends a cancellation-message to the WCD. In response to the cancellation-message, the WCD then deletes or otherwise disables the installation-trigger logic, so that the process will not be repeated the next time the WCD is connected with the PC.

  • Patent number: 7904079
Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus for monitoring user-interface operation. One or more wireless communication devices, such as cell phones, will automatically log user-interface events (such as key-presses) and user-interface states (such as display screen state) and will transmit the log-data, via a wireless link, to a central server. The server will then compile the log-data and generate useful output reports regarding user-interface operation. Such reports can assist device manufacturers and distributors (e.g., wireless carriers), triggering changes in user-interface design so as to improve user experience.

  • Patent number: 7196718
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting a digital image correlated with a phone number to a destination after placing a voice call with the phone number. The method involves (i) maintaining data that correlates phone numbers with digital images, (ii) placing a voice call between a telephone which maintains the data and a device operating under the phone number, (iii) using the data to identify a digital image correlated with the phone number involved in the voice call, and (iv) sending the digital image from the telephone to a destination associated with the phone number. The apparatus may be a camera phone that includes an image-capturing segment, a communication interface, a processor, data storage, and program-logic for carrying out the function of transmitting a digital image correlated with a phone number to a destination, after placement of a voice call with the phone number.

  • Patent number: 6980642
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing abbreviated dialing functionality to a user's subscriber terminal or telephone by automatically adding a designated string of digits to any abbreviated extension dialed by the user. The subscriber terminal may include a processor, a memory (e.g., ROM, flash memory, non-volatile memory, hard disk, etc.), a “Send” button or the like, one or more sequences of digits stored in the memory, and a translation routine executable by the processor. The translation routine is executed when the processor determines that the digits entered by the user represent an abbreviated extension, for example, when a user dials fewer than seven digits and presses the “Send” button on a subscriber terminal. When executed, the translation routine automatically prepends or adds one of the stored sequences of digits to the abbreviated extension entered by the user, and then the subscriber terminal dials the resulting composite telephone number.

  • Patent number: 6772143
Abstract: A method and system for management of messages. Upon receipt of a message, or at another time, the machine may automatically extract a parameter value from the message and create a new folder for storing messages that match that parameter value. The machine may thus store the message, and other messages that match the parameter value, in the folder. Alternatively, the machine may present the message to a user and allow a user to select one or more values from the message, to be used as a filter for a folder. The machine may then store the message, and other messages that match the filter, in the folder.
