  • Patent number: 11698001
Abstract: A containment system for a gas turbine engine includes an outer containment ring having a first projection that extends radially inward and an inner containment ring having at least a second projection that extends radially outward toward the outer containment ring. The second projection is offset and spaced apart from the first projection to define a chamber in a first state. The containment system includes a lattice defined within the chamber that spans the chamber, and the lattice is integrally formed with each of the outer containment ring and the inner containment ring. A density of the lattice varies in at least one of an axial direction and a radial direction. The second projection is configured to interlock with the first projection in a second state.

  • Patent number: 10758981
Abstract: Additively-manufactured flow restrictors are provided, as are methods for producing additively-manufactured flow restrictors. In various embodiments, the additively-manufactured flow restrictor includes a flowbody through which a flow path extends, a restricted orifice located in the flowbody and providing a predetermined resistance to fluid flowing along the flow path in a first flow direction, and a first internal perforated screen positioned in the flow path upstream of the restricted orifice taken in the first flow direction. The flowbody and the first internal perforated screen integrally formed as a single additively-manufactured piece utilizing, for example, Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) or another additive manufacturing process. In certain embodiments, the first internal perforated screen may include an endwall and a peripheral sidewall, which is integrally formed with the endwall and spaced from an inner circumferential surface of the flowbody by an annular clearance.

  • Patent number: 10646915
Abstract: A structure and method are provided for forming a box for molding an article for use in casting. A wall defines a cavity formed in a shape of the article and configured to receive a material for forming the article. A rim is disposed around the wall and extends therefrom defining a hollow back on an opposite side of the wall from the cavity. A lattice structure formed in the hollow back and is connected with the wall and with the rim. The box may be formed by additive manufacturing.

  • Publication number: 20200009646
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a directionally solidified article of the present disclosure includes providing a collection of particulate material and additively manufacturing a first article with an outer wall from the particulate material. The outer wall defines at least part of a cavity. The cavity contains an amount of the particulate material. The method also includes encasing at least a portion of the first article with an outer member. The outer member defines an internal cavity that corresponds to the first article. The method further includes heating the outer member and the first article to melt the first article into a molten mass within the internal cavity of the outer member. Additionally, the method includes solidifying the molten mass along a predetermined solidification path within the outer member to form a second article that corresponds to at least a portion of the internal cavity of the outer member.
