  • Patent number: 12368967
Abstract: A distributed image signal processing (ISP) system for a head-mounted device reduces the power load on the battery of the head-mounted device. The distributed ISP system includes a Bayer image processing engine, an RGB image processing engine, and a YUV image processing engine. The Bayer image processing engine is operated by, for example, processing logic of the head-mounted device. The Bayer image processing engine provides Bayer image data from raw image data. The YUV image processing engine is operated by, for example, processing logic of a (companion) computing device (e.g., a phone, tablet, laptop, compute puck, personal computer). The computing device is communicatively coupled (e.g., wired or wirelessly) to the head-mounted device to receive image data. The RGB image processing engine may be operated by the head-mounted device or the computing device.

  • Publication number: 20230308770
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for operating image modules via an artificial reality (AR) device. In various exemplary embodiments, an artificial reality device may initiate a first camera of the AR device to identify a picture region and may track at least one gaze via a second camera of the AR device or at least one gesture via the first camera. The AR device may be a head-mounted device, for example, including a plurality of inward and outward facing cameras. The AR device may determine a region of interest within the picture region based on the at least one tracked gaze or gesture and may focus on the region of interest via the first camera. The focusing operations may include at least one of an auto-exposure operation, an auto-focus operation, or a stabilizing operation.

  • Publication number: 20220124259
Abstract: Presented here is a system and method to record images having varying zoom levels using a lens having a substantially fixed zoom level. The resulting image can have varying zoom levels and can be of high quality. The light sensor recording the image can have a resolution higher than the desired resolution of the resulting image. The high resolution of the light sensor allows digital zooming, i.e., cropping of the image. The light sensor can operate in two modes, where each mode produces varying resolutions of the resulting image. Operating the light sensor in the mode producing a high resolution of the resulting image, however, does not produce images of satisfactory quality in low light conditions, and the light sensor may need to be switched between the first and the second mode depending on the zoom level and the lighting conditions.
