Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing an interactive service to devices using different digital broadcast middleware standards are provided. The apparatus includes an execution information providing module which provides execution information regarding an application that has been executed in a first device using a first middleware standard so that the application can be executed in a second device using a second middleware standard; and a request execution module which receives a request issued by the second device during the execution of the application in the second device, and performs an operation corresponding to the received request.

The apparatus for transmitting includes a graphical data generating unit that generates graphical data; an encoder that converts the graphical data into a JPEG 2000 code stream; and a transmitting unit that transmits video streams and the code stream. The apparatus for receiving includes a receiving unit that extracts an JPEG 2000 code stream; a decoder that decodes the code stream; and a display unit that displays a video stream included in the received stream and the decoded code stream. The method for transmitting the graphical data includes generating graphical data; converting the data into a JPEG 2000 code stream; and transmitting video streams and the JPEG 2000 code stream. The method for receiving the graphical data includes extracting a JPEG 2000 code stream; decoding the code stream; and displaying the decoded code stream and a video stream.

An Open Cable Application Platform (OCAP) application may be directly executed in at least one broadcasting receiving apparatus by determining whether an application for providing the interactive service is independently executable using middleware installed in the broadcasting receiving apparatus and selectively requesting a set-top box to provide data needed for executing the application based on the determination result.

Abstract: A data-broadcast-receiving apparatus and a display apparatus are disclosed. The data-broadcast-receiving apparatus includes an application-classifying module that classifies a predetermined broadcast-service application into an execution application and a presentation application, an application-executing module that executes the execution application, and a communication module that transmits the presentation module. The display apparatus includes an OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP) browser that browses a predetermined broadcasting service using OCAP-HTML, a communication module that receives a predetermined application corresponding to the browsing operation, and an application-presenting module that executes the received application.

Abstract: A network interface unit (NIU) based on an expandable home theater (XHT) is provided with a tuner which receives a broadcasting signal over an external network; a demodulator which demodulates a baseband signal from the received broadcasting signal; and an NIU chipset which creates a data signal based on an IEEE 1394 protocol from the baseband signal, and transmits the created signal to an A/V apparatus connected to an internal network. The NIU chipset comprises a POD interface controller which outputs a scrambled transport stream included in the baseband signal, receives an encrypted signal, which is a response to the transmitted transport stream, and decodes the received encrypted signal to restore the transport stream; a de-multiplexer which parses the restored transport stream and de-multiplexes the transport stream to extract a bit stream; and a 1394 module which converts the extracted bit stream into data signals according to the IEEE 1394 protocol.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for providing content services in an A/V network supporting web service techniques. An A/V gateway includes a content information requesting unit which requests information about contents to be provided by web services on a distributed network when a predetermined condition is satisfied; a TCP/IP transceiver which receives an ML document including the information about the contents as a response to the request from a service providing device providing the web services; a web service content managing unit which analyzes the ML document including the information about the contents, and generates a reconstructed ML document on the basis of the analysis result; a SOAP server transceiver which transmits the reconstructed ML document; and an A/V network transceiver which transmits a content stream corresponding to the information about the contents.
