  • Patent number: 6438008
Abstract: Transient current pulses/spikes generated by switching components of a battery plant are restricted from application to a floating battery, by suppressing circuitry which is connected to the battery terminals but mostly located outside of the main power path train, coupling primary power to the switching circuit. This blocks from the battery transient current pulses/spikes which may over charge the battery during the float charging operation and damage the battery.

  • Publication number: 20010040797
Abstract: The present invention provides an electromagnetic interference (EMI) module cover for use in an electronics module that is configured to house electrical components that are capable of generating electromagnetic emissions that cause EMI. In one embodiment a conductive sidepanel has a resilient cantilever member formed therefrom with a fixed end that is integrally formed with the sidepanel and a movable end that is free of a module coupler, thereby allowing the resilient cantilever member to flex as the module is installed in a chassis. The resilient cantilever member has a boss that is formed proximate to the movable free end. The boss extends outward from the sidepanel a distance sufficient to provide a conductive path between the conductive sidepanel and an adjacent conductive surface when the module is installed in the chassis.

  • Patent number: 6252180
Abstract: For use with an electronic equipment chassis having a module support member adapted to receive an electronic module and having a conduit containing an electrical conductor proximate the module support member, an electromagnetic interference (EMI) cover, method of manufacturing the EMI cover and electronic equipment chassis employing the same. In one embodiment, the EMI cover includes a conductive body that substantially conforms to the conduit and a boss extending from the conductive body and configured to contact a conductive case of the electronic module. The boss provides a conductive path between the conduit and the electronic module to establish a common voltage potential therebetween thereby reducing EMI emissions associated with the electronic module.

  • Patent number: 6081435
Abstract: For use in a power converter including first and second controllable switches coupled in series across an input, the switches are also coupled to a power transformer, a cross-conduction limiting circuit for, and method of, limiting cross-conduction currents between the first and second controllable switches. In one embodiment, the cross-conduction limiting circuit includes an inductive element, coupled between the first and second controllable switches, that limits a flow of cross-conduction currents between the first and second controllable switches when the first and second controllable switches are simultaneously conducting.

  • Patent number: 5995396
Abstract: A hybrid standby power system for producing regulated DC electrical power, a method of producing such power and a telecommunications installation that employs either the system or the method. In one embodiment, the system includes: (1) a primary power input, couplable to a primary power source, that accepts primary electrical power subject to interruption, (2) a standby power input, couplable to a standby power source, that accepts unregulated standby electrical power and (3) a power converter, couplable to at least one of the primary and standby power inputs, including a rectifier that rectifies at least one of the primary and standby electrical power to provide unregulated DC electrical power and a DC--DC converter that converts the unregulated DC electrical power into the regulated DC electrical power.

  • Patent number: 5739711
Abstract: A circuit suitable for use in a regulated bi-directional output power supply requiring controlled transitions between states, such as in a Battery Polarity Switch is provided to utilize many of the same circuit components in regulating both opposing polarities of the output signal. An exemplary circuit achieves use of a single error amplifier and pulse width modulator circuit to obtain both positive and negative regulation of the battery polarity switch output, along with controlled transition between the two states. In a specific embodiment a logic inverter allows the single pulse width modulator to control in both directions. A ramped reference fed to the error amplifier allows the same amplifier to control the transitions.

  • Patent number: 5666281
Abstract: A switching circuit is provided to process a DC voltage and apply a low frequency AC voltage, having a trapezoidal waveform, to a co-axial cable transmitting the low frequency AC voltage to a load which may be powered by the low frequency AC voltage as well as a DC voltage. In one specific embodiment two of the switches are connected as part of buck regulation circuits to serve a dual purpose of polarity switching and regulation.

  • Patent number: 5648896
Abstract: A DC voltage polarity switching circuit includes four switches connected in a bridge configuration. Switches in opposing legs are paired with each other and turned on and off in alternate phases to deliver a low frequency alternating signal having a trapezoidal waveform to a co-axial cable load. Circuitry is included to control the slew rate when the output signal transitions from one polarity to the other. Also, turn on of a switch in one phase is delayed during turn off of a switch in the end of the interval of presently conducting switches in one phase.

  • Patent number: 5459392
Abstract: An electromagnetic interference reduction circuit incorporated into a pulse width modulator in a power factor corrector circuit, and which serves continuously to vary the operating frequency of the width modulated output of the pulse width modulator so that the fundamental component of said output is spread over a relatively wide bandwidth. The frequency of the width modulated output varies continuously in direct proportion to the voltage from a rectified alternating current sine wave voltage source in order to spread the electromagnetic interference in the circuit over a wide bandwidth.
