Patent number: 10968566Abstract: A hybrid cable having a core and a wrap; the core made from a carbon fiber yarn or bundle of carbon fiber strands or yarns; and the wrap made of a plurality of metal wires helically wrapped around the core, the plurality of metal wires laid side by side without crossing each other. The fibers, yarns, or core may be treated with polymeric sizing, adhesive, or binder. The wire may be steel and may have a coating such as brass or zinc plating, or a polymeric coating or treatment. The hybrid cable is useful for reinforcing composite articles such as belts, track, or hose.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2018Date of Patent: April 6, 2021Assignee: Gates CorporationInventors: Daniel Beal, Yelena Gray

Patent number: 10434560Abstract: An embodiment for disposing a sleeve on a fluid conduit includes positioning a sleeve through lead rollers, pressing sleeve edges to flatten the sleeve against its normal geometry, aligning the flattened sleeve with opposing guide channels defined in an passage through a sleeve guide, feeding the sleeve through the passage, and compressing the sleeve in the passage, letting the edges of the sleeve ride against the guide channels to open the sleeve. A length of the compressed sleeve exiting the guide may be cut using a heated device that fuses the sleeve material, leaving the sleeve clear to receive a fluid conduit. A collar may be disposed around an end of the cut sleeve and over the conduit, then compressed, with an end of the sleeve captured between the collar and end of the conduit. This compressing may define at least one raised portion in the collar.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2013Date of Patent: October 8, 2019Assignee: Gates CorporationInventors: Yelena Gray, Martin K. Bauer

Patent number: 9421600Abstract: A method for assembling a safety hose sleeve system using a crimper die set which includes an upper die comprising an upper curved compressive face, upper recess walls extending contiguous from the upper compressive face at an acute angle to the upper compressive face, each defining a portion of a cavity. Thrust plate slots extend upward from ends of the upper recess walls. A lower die comprises a lower curved compressive face. Lower recess walls extend contiguous from the lower compressive face at an acute angle to the lower compressive face and define another portion of each cavity. Lower thrust plate slots extend downward from an end of the lower recess walls. Thrust plates extend from the lower thrust plate slot into the upper thrust plate slot, across the cavity at an acute angle to each of the recess walls, defining an outer abutment of the cavity.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2013Date of Patent: August 23, 2016Assignee: Gates CorporationInventors: Yelena Gray, Martin K. Patent number: 9188257Abstract: A flame resistant hose having a nitrile-containing rubber inner tube layer; two reinforcing plies one or more insulating plies of rubberized fiberglass unidirectional cord fabric helically wrapped at a helix angle in the range of 40-60 degrees with respect to the hose longitudinal axis and with the edges of each reinforcing ply overlapping up to about 0.5 inches; an optional rubber cushion or tie layer between the reinforcing plies and the insulating plies; and a polychloroprene rubber outer cover layer. The hose may have one or more helical wires embedded in the hose such as between the two reinforcing layers. The hose successfully passes fire resistance testing when tested according to BS ISO 15540:1999 incorporating amendment number 1.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2012Date of Patent: November 17, 2015Assignee: GATES CORPORATIONInventors: Yelena Gray, Timothy C. Zedalis

Publication number: 20140345738Abstract: A protective suppression system including one or more sleeves of expansion coil of energy-absorbing material wrapped around a hose and a blanket which can be wrapped loosely around the wrapped hose. The longitudinal edges of the blanket fasten together to form a protective cylindrical tube, and can be joined end-to-end with one or more additional blankets to extend the protective tube to a desired total length. The system thus can provide improved safety to personnel and the environment by shielding a hose under pressure to suppress bursts, block leaks and by redirecting or channeling test fluids and cleaning fluids.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 5, 2014Publication date: November 27, 2014Inventors: Jay Rick Hill, Jonathan James McKinley, Yelena Gray, Andy Hills, Kim Henderson, Jonathan Clark Swift

Patent number: 8561647Abstract: A pressure-relieving safety assembly, comprising a sleeve and collar, protects against human injury and loss of life by blocking flow of fluid from a ruptured high pressure conduit and provides pressure relief for escaping fluid. This pressure-relieving assembly includes a sleeve that encircles the high-pressure line and is secured to, at one or both ends of the line, a coupling. The sleeve is secured to the coupling(s) by a collar having raised portions that provides a path for fluid that has escaped from the conduit at a burst or pin-hole failure location, to flow towards the ends of the conduit, indicating to the user that a conduit failure has occurred. The sleeve lowers the fluid velocity while the path provided by the collar prevents the fluid pressure from building up behind the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2008Date of Patent: October 22, 2013Assignee: The Gates CorporationInventor: Yelena Gray
