Patent number: 10591885Abstract: A processor-implemented method controls a self-driving vehicle (SDV). One or more processors receive, from one or more physical sensors, physical state readings that describe a physical environment of multiple persons that are in spatial proximity with one another. The processors determine, based on the physical state readings, a context of a physical setting of the multiple persons. The processors identify, based on the context of the physical setting of the multiple persons, an SDV that is known to modify a state of the multiple persons. The processor(s) then transmit, to a device controller, a device activation signal to activate the SDV, in order to transport cargo that one of the multiple persons was previously scheduled to transport.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2017Date of Patent: March 17, 2020Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Olympia Gluck, Itzhack Goldberg, Jinho Hwang, Maja Vukovic, Yelena Zilberstein

Publication number: 20190079481Abstract: A processor-implemented method controls ameliorative devices. A cognitive mediator system receives, from one or more physical sensors, physical state readings that describe a physical environment of multiple persons that are in spatial proximity with one another. The cognitive mediator system, based on the physical state readings, determines: a cognitive state (S), a context (C), and an activity pattern (P) of the multiple persons. The cognitive mediator system, based on S, C, and P, identifies a detrimental state of the multiple persons, as well as one or more ameliorative devices that are known to ameliorate the detrimental state of the multiple persons. The cognitive mediator system then transmits, to a device controller, a device activation signal to activate the identified ameliorative device(s).Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2017Publication date: March 14, 2019Inventors: OLYMPIA GLUCK, ITZHACK GOLDBERG, JINHO HWANG, MAJA VUKOVIC, YELENA ZILBERSTEIN

Patent number: 9630630Abstract: A tool for mitigating driver fatigue. The tool registers a profile for a driver, wherein registering the profile includes the driver in a social community. The tool receives a request to initiate a conversation, wherein the request indicates the driver is suffering from driver fatigue. The tool gathers information to fulfill the request to initiate a conversation, wherein information includes at least a proximity of the driver to one or more additional drivers in the social community. The tool determines, based, at least in part, on the registered profile and the gathered information, one or more strategies for mitigating driver fatigue; the one or more strategies for mitigating driver fatigue including at least. The tool initiates a conversation between the driver and the one or more additional drivers.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2016Date of Patent: April 25, 2017Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Olympia Gluck, Itzhack Goldberg, Neil Sondhi, Yelena Zilberstein

Patent number: 9296396Abstract: A tool for mitigating driver fatigue. The tool registers, by one or more computer processors, a profile for a driver, wherein registering the profile includes the driver in a social community. The tool receives, by one or more computer processors, a request to initiate a conversation, the request indicating the driver is suffering from driver fatigue. The tool determines, by one or more computer processors, one or more available additional drivers. The tool determines, by one or more computer processors, based, at least in part, on the registered profile, one or more strategies for mitigating driver fatigue.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2014Date of Patent: March 29, 2016Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Olympia Gluck, Itzhack Goldberg, Neil Sondhi, Yelena Zilberstein

Patent number: 7065623Abstract: Methods, system and computer program product are provided to improve the efficiency of data transfers in a PPRC environment. A block of data to be transferred is divided into tracks. Each track is allocated to a data mover task control block (TCB) with a master TCB being assigned to supervise the data mover TCBs. The tracks are then transferred from the primary storage controller to the secondary controller in a piped fashion over a link coupling the primary and secondary storage controllers. However, the usage of resources is monitored by a resource management algorithm and, if too many TCBs are being used for a transfer or if the supply of data mover TCBs is exhausted, the transfer is automatically switched to a serial, non-piped transfer with the master TCB serving as the data mover TCB for the remaining tracks. In addition, the various links coupling the primary and secondary storage controllers is monitored to determine which link will provide the fastest transfer.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2003Date of Patent: June 20, 2006Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: James C. Chen, Olympia Gluck, Gabriel G. Walder, Yelena Zilberstein, Warren K. Stanley, Edward H. Lin
