  • Publication number: 20070261079
Abstract: A method and video device are disclosed for accessing information. In an embodiment of the present invention, part of data included in a title, being played, read from a storage medium or extracted from a broadcast signal is extracted and sent to a server over a network, and information corresponding to the part of the data (i.e., information related to the data and complete data of the data) is received from the server and played. Rather than the part of the data, information related to a position of the data, (e.g. a time point at which the playing of the data starts within the title or a radial position or a physical address at which the data is located in the storage medium) may be sent. The data may be data that forms audio, a frame-shaped video clip or a frame-shaped picture included in the title.

  • Publication number: 20060195878
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for providing and obtaining product information through a broadcast signal. In this present invention, information identifying a product item, which is in a scene to be presented from a broadcast signal, is provided together with a broadcast signal, then a signal receiving terminal stores the product information for a new product item and displays the stored information to a viewer to select one product item while or after watching an interesting broadcast program, and transmits data identifying a selected product item to a predetermined web site and receives web site address for the selected item from that site. As a result, derailed information for the selected item is acquired from a server addressed by the received web site address.

  • Publication number: 20060072266
Abstract: The present invention relates to a voltage controller equipped with an electronic appliance capable of using a plurality of power sources selectively and a method thereof. The plurality of power sources includes a battery power source and an adaptor power source. The voltage controller detects a voltage of a specific power source applied to the voltage controller and then converts an input power source into the specific power source. Further, the voltage controller cuts off an over voltage higher than a predetermined voltage.

  • Publication number: 20060056808
Abstract: Embodiments of an apparatus and method for controlling a playback operation of a digital video device determine whether to reproduce a selection according to a restriction operation characteristic such as filter rate or size. Embodiments can calculate the sum of portions to be skipped over or muted by a (e.g., clearplay) playback restriction operation using a user-defined playback restriction condition and filter table information, compare a determined filter rate of a corresponding video, and determine whether to reproduce the title according to the filter rate. Therefore, embodiments of an apparatus can prevent a user from needlessly viewing the selected video when said portions to be skipped or muted are so sustained as to effect the viewing quality (e.g., as determined by the user).

  • Publication number: 20060056797
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a recording operation of a digital video device is provided which automatically skip over or mute a data stream of some duration consistent with a user-defined filter condition during a data recording process, such as a disc copy process. The method and apparatus prevent data of the duration from being recorded, or additionally record navigation information, such as playlist information, to prevent some duration from being reproduced even if the duration has been recorded in a recording process. Thus, the method and apparatus prevent video and audio data of some duration inappropriate for adolescents or children from being freely copied/recorded, or from being reproduced by a general playback operation.

  • Publication number: 20050259545
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling tilt in an optical disc device are provided. The method includes determining tilt offset values corresponding to different positions of an optical disc for a first tilt control mode, and deciding whether to switch to a static tilt control mode, based on a difference between the detected tilt offset values. If the disc is subject to defect management, a static tilt control mode is selected so that stable focus and tracking servo operations are maintained. If the disc is not subject to defect management, a dynamic tilt control mode is selected so that tilt control optimal for the skew of the optical disc, which gradually increases towards the outer perimeter of the disc, is performed. If the difference between tilt offset values detected respectively for inner and outer peripheral areas of the disc is small when the dynamic tilt control mode is selected, the device determines that the skew is low and changes the tilt control mode to the static tilt control mode.

  • Publication number: 20050128913
Abstract: A method for performing optimal recording power calibration (OPC) on a recording medium, such as a DVD-RW, is characterized by flagging the address of the last test data. The method enables a recording position of the last test data to be quickly retrieved by recording position information of a power calibration area, in which the last test data is recorded, and indication information (such as a flag bit) indicating the recording position information is the last test data, in a specific area of the recording medium, such as the second field (field 1) of the format 1 RMD (recording management data). Such a method shortens the processing time prior to the OPC, and does not require the recorder to employ registers to determine the address of the last test data.

  • Publication number: 20050117480
Abstract: A recording medium and method for controlling a recording operation using at least two OPC information obtained from performing at least two OPC operations for the same drive. The method includes comparing the two PC information with each other, and controlling a recording operation of the recording medium based on the comparison result.

  • Publication number: 20050117479
Abstract: A recording medium and a method and apparatus for controlling an optimal recording power calibration (OPC) are provided. The method includes reading a last time information recorded on the recording medium, comparing the read time information with a current time information, and selectively performing an OPC operation based on the comparison result.

  • Publication number: 20050111825
Abstract: A method for transmitting and recording user preference information when recording an optical disc. The method records user preference information, prestored in the optical disc player, which is associated with a first recording medium, onto a second recording medium, when copying data recorded on the first recording medium, such as a DVD-ROM, onto the second recording medium such as a DVD-RW. By this arrangement, a user need not manually control an optical disc device playing the second recording medium to set the individual user's preference information again.
