More particularly, a method of controlling a special playback mode of a video signal reproducing apparatus, by rejecting a special playback key input during comparison of program classes in an initial playback mode, and restricting run of a special playback mode while a video signal loaded with program class data is being reproduced, is provided. The special playback key command, which is input while the video signal with program class data is being reproduced, is refused, thereby preventing pictures from being output regardless of program class, because the program class cannot be exactly detected in a special playback mode.

    Abstract: A disk player for setting an initial position of an optical pickup based on disk recognition places the optical pickup in the closest position to an initial position of the loaded disk, to swiftly recognize a type of the disk and quickly reproduce information recorded on the disk. The initial optical pickup is moved to any position between the TOC area of a mini-disk and that of a compact disk. In this state, a system controller judges whether the loaded disk is a mini-disk or a compact disk based on the signal read from the disk via the optical pickup. If the signal read from the disk is a stored signal, the system microcomputer judges that the loaded disk is a mini-disk and moves the optical pickup to a start position of the TOC area in the mini-disk. On the other hand, if the signal read from the disk is not a stored signal, the system microcomputer judges that the loaded disk is a compact disk and moves the optical pickup to a start position of the TOC area in the compact disk.

    Abstract: A program search method for a digital signal processor which can search a program irrespective of the presence or absence of chapter numbers indicating portions of a recorded program includes the steps for setting predetermined search interval and reproduction period according to respective external inputs, jumping from a present location by the predetermined search interval set in the setting step, reproducing the program from a recording medium for the predetermined reproduction period set during the setting step after performing the jumping step, and then repeatedly performing the jumping and reproducing steps. In contrast with the conventional method, the program search method performs search and intro functions by the set intervals, which are defined in terms of time or frame units. Thus, the multi-intro scan function can be performed even if there is no chapter number differentiation for each respective program.
