  • Publication number: 20090299379
Abstract: An instrument for performing myringotomy operations consists of a device for incising, suctioning and grasping a tympanostomy tube (ISGTT) attached to a gripping handle. The ISGTT consists of a gripper and a pushing and suctioning member (PS) surrounded by an external tube. Peripheral fingers of the gripper press against the surface of the tubular segment of the tympanostomy tube for grasping. An incising blade disposed within the lumen of the PS is movable coaxially with the bore of the tympanostomy tube. Blade positioning selector located at the proximal end of the ISGTT provides for drawing and withdrawing the incising blade through the bore of the gripped tympanostomy tube. A lever pivotally attached to the griping handle is used to control grasping and releasing of the tympanostomy tube when properly placed.

  • Patent number: 6031603
Abstract: There is described a new sensor for optical blood oximetry as well as a method and apparatus in which the new sensor is used. The new sensor includes two point-like light emitters (23,24) positioned in the center of the device in close proximity to each other and at least one and preferably two annular detector terminals (32,39) concentrically surrounding the light emitters. The light sources may, for example, be two laser diodes emitting each monochromatic light within the range of 670 nm to 940 nm. The detector devices are, for example, photodetectors.

  • Patent number: 4821710
Abstract: The present invention relates to a simple device for ensuring the correct placement of endotracheal intubation. According to the invention, there is a transparent adaptor suitable to be attached at one end to an endotracheal tube and at the other end to a mechanical respirator. Into the adaptor there is a solid support impregnated with a solution of at least two chemical compounds: organic amine and an indicator with a pK in the range of 8.0 to 10.5 of a concentration of at least 0.05% (wt. by volume) of the impregnation solution. The simplest form of solid support is a porous paper, such as filter paper, fiber or fabric. The correct insertion of the endotracheal intubation is noticed by the change in color of the impregnated solution onto the solid support. Optionally, the solution contains an inorganic alkali hydroxide, such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, a humidifier and an organic solvent. It is universal and can be attached to any existent endotracheal tube.
