Abstract: An exercise apparatus having movable elements which are manipulatable against resistance by a user to selectively exercise either the abdominal muscles or the back muscles of the user. The movable elements are interconnected for concurrent movement. Resistance to their movement is provided by an elastic resistance band which is secured to one of the elements and to a fixed support structure of the exercise apparatus. An adjustment mechanism is provided for pre-tensioning the resistance band.

Abstract: A striding exerciser comprising a frame having a base adapted to be supported on a horizontal surface and a pair of spaced upright supports each secured to and extending upwardly from the base. A pair of stride assemblies are each mounted to the frame and each includes a leg member and an arm member, arranged to pivot about a respective first and second pivot axis. A first mechanism is provided for interconnecting the leg member and the arm member within each stride assemblies for concurrent pivoting movement in the same angular direction about their respective pivot axes and a second mechanism is provided for interconnecting the pair of stride assemblies for concurrent pivoting movement in opposite angular directions about the pivot axes.

Abstract: Exercise apparatus which enables the user to selectively perform a bench press exercise or a butterfly exercise using the same apparatus elements without requiring any modification to the apparatus by the user. A pair of exercise arms are mounted to a pivot bar for pivoting movement each about a respective one of a pair of parallel pivot axes and are interconnected for concurrent pivoting movement in opposite angular directions about the pair of pivot axes by respective intermeshed circular gear segments. The pivot bar is mounted to an overhead member for pivoting movement about a horizontal pivot axis. When a butterfly exercise is being performed, the apparatus provides equal resistance to both of the user's arms and insures that both arms move at the same speed. When a bench press exercise is being performed, the meshing of the circular gear segments locks the exercise arms together.

Abstract: A treadmill provided with pivoting poles of adjustable resistance to enable a user to partake of both an upper body workout and a lower body workout. The poles are mounted about raised pivot axes at approximately the level of the knees of a user standing on the treadmill belt.

Abstract: Abdominal exercise apparatus wherein upper and lower body supports are provided and interconnected to coordinate upper and lower abdominal workouts. Resistance for the abdominal exercises may also be provided by the apparatus. Further, the interconnection between the upper and lower body supports may be selectively disconnected so that individual upper and lower abdominal exercises can be performed.
