  • Publication number: 20040162084
Abstract: Accurate position capability can be quickly provided using a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). When associated with a WLAN, a wireless device can quickly determine its relative and/or coordinate position based on information provided by an access point in the WLAN. Before a wireless device disassociates with the access point, the WLAN can periodically provide time, location, and decoded GPS data to the wireless device. In this manner, the wireless device can significantly reduce the time to acquire the necessary GPS satellite data (i.e. on the order of seconds instead of minutes) to determine its coordinate position.

  • Publication number: 20040066773
Abstract: Current OFDM systems use a limited number of symbols and/or sub-channels to provide approximations for channel estimations and pilot tracking, i.e. phase estimations. For example, two training symbols in the preamble of a data packet are used to provide channel estimation. Four of the fifty-four sub-channels are reserved for providing phase estimation. However, noise and other imperfections can cause errors in both of these estimations, thereby degrading system performance. Advantageously, decision feedback mechanisms can be provided to significantly improve channel estimation and pilot tracking in OFDM systems. The decision feedback mechanisms can use data symbols in the data packet to improve channel estimation as well as data sub-channels to improve pilot tracking.

  • Publication number: 20030152021
Abstract: A method of scaling at a receiver representations of training signals received from a transmitter. The method includes producing a frequency domain representation of at least one long training symbol received at the receiver and a frequency domain representation of a data symbol, and scaling the frequency domain representation of the at least one long symbol based on a largest coefficient in the frequency domain representation to produce a scaled frequency domain representation of the at least one long symbol.

  • Publication number: 20030112825
Abstract: Systems and methods for correcting phase ambiguity in a total pilot phase value are presented. Examples include comparing and correcting total pilot phase values having different pilot frequencies within the same sampling interval, such as the same data symbol. Another example includes correcting a total pilot phase value for one sampling interval and corresponding to one pilot frequency using nonlinear filtering of values of the total pilot phase for prior sampling intervals at the same pilot frequency.
