  • Publication number: 20130071682
Abstract: Provided is a method of preparing a multi-phase particulate. The method includes: (1) blending together (a) a dispersed phase component of a metal, a metal oxide, an organometallic compound, salts thereof, and/or mixtures thereof, and (b) a bulk phase component of an inorganic material different from the dispersed phase component to form an admixture; and (2) dry-milling and/or compressing the admixture for a time and at a pressure sufficient to disperse the dispersed phase component in and bind the dispersed phase component to the bulk phase component, thereby forming a multi-phase particulate. Coating compositions including the multi-phase particulate also are provided.

  • Patent number: 8388878
Abstract: Provided is a method of producing a microporous sheet material of a polymeric matrix of polyolefin, with finely divided and substantially water-insoluble filler distributed throughout the matrix, and a network of interconnecting pores communicating throughout the microporous material. The method includes: (a) forming a mixture of polyolefin, filler and a processing plasticizer composition; (b) extruding the mixture to form a continuous sheet; and (c) contacting the continuous sheet with a non-flammable extraction fluid composition to extract the processing plasticizer composition from the continuous sheet. The extraction fluid has a boiling point of 75° C. or less, and is essentially free of trichloroethylene. The microporous sheet material has Tensile Strength equal to or greater than 800 kPa. A microporous sheet material also is provided.

  • Publication number: 20100261029
Abstract: Provided is a multi-phase particulate having a dispersed phase component dispersed in and bound to a bulk phase component. The dispersed phase component includes a metal, a metal oxide, an organometallic compound, salts thereof, and/or mixtures thereof, and the bulk phase component includes an inorganic material different from the dispersed phase component. The dispersed phase component is present in an amount ranging from 0.5 to 60 percent by weight based on total combined weight of the dispersed phase component and the bulk phase component. Related methods, compositions and composites also are provided.

  • Patent number: 6761933
Abstract: An improved process for applying a coating to an untreated ferrous metal substrate is disclosed. The substrate does not need to be phosphated or subjected to any other conversion coating prior to treatment. The process includes contacting the substrate surface first with a solution comprising a Group IIIB and/or IVB metal-containing compound and a nitrate, and then with a second solution comprising a reaction product of an epoxy and an amine, phosphorus or sulfur-containing compound. A film-forming resin is then deposited on the substrate and cured. Substrates treated by the process of the present invention demonstrate excellent corrosion resistance and are also disclosed herein.
