  • Patent number: 7471723
Abstract: A system and method of transmitting video packets to enhance error concealment and error resilience are provided. The method includes encoding a first macroblock of video data into a video packet. The method also includes determining whether a length of the video packet including the first macroblock exceeds a threshold length. The method also includes encoding a second macroblock into the video packet as the final macroblock when the length of the video packet with the first macrobock exceeds the threshold length. The method also includes transmitting the video packet.

  • Publication number: 20040228402
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, a method of transmitting video packets to enhance error concealment and error resilience is described. The method comprises serially encoding macro blocks of encoded video data into packets having roughly uniform length. Macroblocks are serially encoded and added to the video packet until the length of the video packet exceeds a threshold length. The final macroblock is then determined. In some embodiments, the final macroblock is the next macroblock after the threshold length has been exceeded. In some embodiments, the final macroblock is the macroblock that does not exceed the length.

  • Publication number: 20040141654
Abstract: A texture encoding procedure is presented which helps to reduce the required number of bits utilized to represent a VOP. The data in each VOP is transformed by a discrete cosine transform and then quantized in a quantization procedure. A prediction direction is then determined for each block to be encoded in the VOP based on the gradients of surrounding blocks to the block to be encoded. A DC prediction can then be performed. Whether or not to perform an AC prediction along the same prediction direction is determined for each macroblock in the VOP based a determination that there is a likelihood that the number of bits required to represent to macroblock would be reduced or not.

  • Patent number: 6507673
Abstract: New and improved apparatus and methods for video encoding, for example, to efficiently and concurrently encode video data into digital formats, such as Digital Video (DV) format. A pipelined system receives a block of video data and based on the computations and comparisons concurrently performed on the pixels within the block of video data determines which type of transformation is most appropriate for a given block of video data.
