  • Publication number: 20160191542
Abstract: In an example, a system and method are provided for validating the sender of a message, such as an e-mail, text message, voice mail, network message, internet posting, or other electronic message. An authenticity server engine may first prescreen the message with anti-spam, anti-malware, and other filters. The screened message is then provided to the end user. If the end user deems the message suspicious, he may request additional validation. The authenticity server engine may then apply an example four-phase validation scheme, including analyzing header data for consistency with the message body, analyzing public data sources, analyzing private data sources, and receiving a result of an off-channel challenge to the sender. The server may then assign the message a sender validity confidence score.

  • Patent number: 9372477
Abstract: An environmental monitoring device that includes a switching mechanism is described. During operation of the environmental monitoring device, the switching mechanism (such as a switch) selectively electrically couples a first electrical-connection node and a second electrical-connection node. For example, using the switching mechanism, an electronic device that is electrically coupled to the first electrical-connection node may be selectively electrically coupled to a second electronic device that is electrically coupled to the second electrical-connection node. The selective electrical coupling may be based on one or more measurements of an environmental condition in an external environment that includes the environmental monitoring device. Moreover, a sensor mechanism in the environmental monitoring device may provide sensor data based on the one or more measurements.

  • Patent number: 9353166
Abstract: Chimeric peptides or fusion proteins are disclosed that include a RhoGAP activity domain and at least one specificity domain that targets a specific Rho protein. The fusion proteins can be used to inhibit any GTPase activity within a cell. The fusion proteins are particularly advantageous for the treatment of cancer. The present invention generally relates to chimeric peptides capable of regulating GTPases, and more particularly, to methods of targeting individual GTPases by using GTPase-activating proteins. Such proteins may be used for the treatment of cancers and other GTPase-related diseases. This invention relates to nucleic acid molecules and the encoded GTPase activating proteins, and variants thereof, and to the use of these molecules in the characterization, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cell signaling, immune, and cell proliferative disorders, particularly cancer. Disclosed herein are compounds and methods for regulating transcription of a selected gene.

  • Patent number: 9324318
Abstract: A subject voice is characterized and altered to mimic a target voice while maintaining the verbal message of the subject voice. Thus, the words and message are the same as in the original voice, but the voice that conveys the words and message in the altered voice is different. Audio signals corresponding to the altered voice are output, for example to an application for playback to a user, or to another application or device for subsequent playback by the user or someone else. In one embodiment, the altered voice is posted to a social network. In other embodiments, the altered voice is used by other software applications or consumer electronics applications, such as GPS guidance systems, ebook readers, voice-based intelligent personal assistants, chat applications, and/or others that use voice as an input or output.

  • Patent number: 9318037
Abstract: An apparatus for eliminating image sticking, a display device and a method for eliminating image sticking. The apparatus for eliminating image sticking comprises a Multi-Level Gate (MLG) circuit (1) and a gate driving module (2), the MLG circuit (1) is configured to receive a gate ON voltage unmodulated and output a modulated gate ON voltage according to an enable signal; the gate driving module (2) receives the gate ON voltage unmodulated and the modulated gate ON voltage outputted from the MLG circuit, and outputs one of the gate ON voltage unmodulated and the modulated gate ON voltage for each layer of gate lines among different layers of gate lines. No change in process on a panel side is required and a short period of time is taken to eliminate the image sticking. The image sticking eliminating effect is controllable because a gate signal and its falling time are controllable, and the image sticking eliminating is more flexible.

  • Patent number: 9275127
Abstract: Data associated with a plurality of check-ins performed by users of a social network is received by processors where each check-in identifies a location and tags associated with the location within the social network that are used by the social network to describe the location. A mapping of tags to categories from a list of categories where each tag is mapped to a single category is accessed by the processors. One or more categories are determined by the processors for each check-in based on the mapping of tags to categories for each check-in. A single category is identified by the processors from the determined one or more categories for each check-in. Data associating each check-in is stored by the processors in association with the identified category for each check-in. Data representing the plurality of check-ins and the respective single category for each check-in is outputted for display by the processors.

  • Publication number: 20160035066
Abstract: There is provided a method and apparatus for image color enhancement, wherein the method comprises the following steps: S1, collecting color components of an image, converting the color components from a RGB space into a HSV space, and obtaining parameters in the HSV space as hue, saturation, and value respectively; S2, performing gain operations selectively on the saturation and the value by judging the saturation in the HSV space; S3, converting the obtained parameters in the HSV space back into the RGB space. In the above method for image color enhancement, after the color components are converted into the HSV space, firstly, the saturation value is judged, and the gain operations are performed selectively by utilizing the gain function according to the judgment result.

  • Publication number: 20160034010
Abstract: An electronic device that generates a programmed electrical characteristic is described. During operation, the electronic device generates a programmed electrical characteristic associated with a predefined identifier that specifies information about the electronic device (such as a type, a model, a brand, an operating condition of the electronic device, and/or a unique identifier of the electronic device). For example, an integrated circuit in the electronic device may have a varying power consumption based on the predefined identifier. In particular, the programmed electrical characteristic may be associated with execution of a program module by a processor, such as initialization of firmware by the processor. The resulting modulated waveform may be detected and analyzed by another electronic device to determine the predefined identifier and, thus, a device profile (with the specified information) for the electronic device.
