  • Patent number: 10587503
Abstract: Techniques for a selection or reselection a user-plane path in a mobile network are disclosed herein. A user-plane gateway (GW-U) can be configured to decode a packet received from a control plane gateway (GW-C) in a packet data network gateway (PGW) to determine a forwarding policy. Additionally, the GW-U can decode, from an evolved node B (eNB), an internet protocol (IP) packet having a header field. Furthermore, the GW-U can determine a user-plane path for the IP packet based on a comparison of the header field and the forwarding policy. Based on the determined user-plane path, the GW-U can forward the IP packet to a local application server (AS), encapsulate and forward the IP packet to the PGW, or discard the IP packet. Moreover, the GW-U can encode the IP packet for transmission based on the determined user-plane selection.

  • Publication number: 20190364456
Abstract: A traffic offloading function (TOF) of a mobile edge computing (MEC) platform uses a traffic forwarding table and a location database updated by monitoring control plane messages. User plane traffic in a default bearer passes through an extended TOF where the IP packets retrieved from a General Packet Radio Service Tunneling Protocol (GTP) tunnel are forwarded following a policy that is created by detecting (or sniffing) control plane messages exchanged over the S1-MME interface. An additional entity, a location database, is responsible for tracking a location of a UE and other hosts in the mobile network. The location database can be used to guide the forwarding policy creation in an absence of the control plane messages.

  • Publication number: 20190075552
Abstract: An apparatus of a Next Generation Node-B (gNB) with a CP-UP separation includes processing circuitry configured to decode a radio resource control (RRC) request message from the UE for establishing a connection between the UE and a UPF of a 5G NR architecture in a network slice. In response to a confirmation message that the UE is authorized to communicate via the network slice, encode a Central Unit User plane (CU-UP) resource status request message for transmission by a Central Unit Control Plane (CU-CP) entity of the gNB to a plurality of CU-UP entities. A CU-UP resource status response message from each of the plurality of CU-UP entities is decoded at the CU-CP entity. The resource status response message including resource availability information for the CU-UP entities. A CU-UP entity is selected by the CU-CP entity from the plurality of CU-UP entities based on the resource availability information.

  • Patent number: 9992098
Abstract: A method for routing data at a first node of a network including a second node. The method includes: providing the first node with a database storing an association between: an URL component identifying content at the first node, and a unique identifier associated to the second node, the unique identifier being specified by the second node; registering content locally stored in the second node by storing in the database an association between an URL component identifying the locally stored content and the unique identifier of the second node; and, upon reception from a requesting entity, by the first node, of a content request having a content identifier, the method includes: checking in the database whether the content identifier includes the URL component, and forwarding the content request to the second node if the content identifier includes the URL component associated with the unique identifier of the second node.

  • Patent number: 9918298
Abstract: One embodiment provided herein relates to a method in which a mobile device selects a paging cell whose location area is registered to the network and determines where paging of this mobile device takes place, and selects an access cell to be used by the mobile device when connecting to the network. When the mobile device receives a paging message in the paging cell it sends the paging response through the access cell. Nodes in the mobile network are configured not to reject or filter out paging responses received from mobile devices that this node did not page. Instead, the nodes initiate call setup for such mobile devices.

  • Patent number: 9661657
Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate generally to efficient transmission of data over a radio network between a user equipment (“UE”) and a network node. The UE may adapt packets from TCP to a private protocol and transmit those data packets to the network node. The UE may use ARQ data from link layer circuitry to locally generate TCP ACK data for TCP layer circuitry. At the network node, the private-protocol data packets may be adapted to TCP and transmitted to a remote host over the Internet so that the TCP semantic may be maintained between the UE and the remote host. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.

  • Patent number: 9615395
Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for controlling transport of ratelessly coded messages are disclosed herein. User equipment (UE) may be configured to receive a data object using a plurality of radios having distinct radio protocols. The data object may divided into a plurality of segments, and the segments may be encoded with a random linear network code before transmission. The random linear network code may permit the UE to reassemble each segment from any large enough set of encoded packets. The UE may use delivery control messages with very low overhead to control the flow of packets for each radio. The UE may control the number of packets received for each segment without specifying which particular packets should be sent. The transmitters may transmit the packets with very little overhead, and encoding information for the packets may be included in the packets in a compact form.
