Patent number: 11662922Abstract: In some examples, a system allocates a plurality of partitions of a shared storage to respective data services. Based on respective utilizations of the plurality of partitions, the system selects, for a given data service of the data services, between a global storage apportionment process to rebalance shares of the shared storage among the data services, and a local storage apportionment process, where the rebalancing includes releasing a partition of the given data service, and the local storage apportionment process comprising freeing segments within the partition of the given data service.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 2021Date of Patent: May 30, 2023Assignee: Hewlett Packard Enterprise Development LPInventors: Hy Dinh Vu, Murali Krishna Vishnumolakala, Yihong Xu, Ying Hu

Patent number: 7107453Abstract: Systems and methods for generating and decoding authenticatable graphical bar codes are described. In one aspect, a corroborative signed message is generated from information to be encoded, and a base image is modulated with a graphical encoding of the signed message to produce a marked image. In another aspect, a signed message is extracted from a marked image based upon a comparison of the marked image and a base image. The extracted signed message is decoded to produce a decoded message. Information encoded in the marked image is extracted from the decoded message and authenticated.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2000Date of Patent: September 12, 2006Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Jonathan Yen, Gerald Q. Maguire, Jr., Chit Wei Saw, Yihong Xu

Patent number: 7028902Abstract: A barcode with enhanced visual quality may be used with an item such as a document. The barcode includes a background field having an embedded graphic. The background caries data related to the item. The embedded graphic may obscure some background data. A bar coding apparatus, system and a corresponding method involve two basic functions: encoding and decoding. The encoding function uses an encoding algorithm to generate the barcode. The graphic is then embedded onto the barcode and the thus-generated enhanced visually significant barcode is placed on the item. Decoding involves machine-reading the barcode using a decoding algorithm. The decoding algorithm can operate with or without an original bit map that was used to generate the graphic. The graphic may be enhanced in a manner that may make at least a portion of the encoded information within the graphic readable by a human.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2002Date of Patent: April 18, 2006Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Yihong Xu, Henry W. Sang, Jr.

Patent number: 6976166Abstract: The present invention is directed to methods and apparatus that partially encrypt an information data file. An exemplary method includes dividing the information file into a first file and a second file, wherein the second file includes content from the information file to preclude reconstruction of the information file using only the first file, and encrypting the second file. Additionally, the method provides for transmitting the first file and the encrypted second file from a first device to a second device.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2001Date of Patent: December 13, 2005Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Cormac Herley, Yihong Xu

Patent number: 6751352Abstract: A barcode system for generating and decoding a barcode with visual significance. The barcode system of the present invention includes an encoding module for receiving a message and a logo and generating a visually significant barcode based on these inputs. A decoding module is also provided for receiving an acquired version of a visually significant barcode that may have been degraded in a typical document handling channel (e.g., through the printing, scanning, or copying process) and for recovering the message specified by the visually significant barcode.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2000Date of Patent: June 15, 2004Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Izhak Baharav, Cormac Herley, Yihong Xu, Jonathan Yen, Timothy Harrison, Doron Shaked, Avraham Levy, Angela K. Publication number: 20040012601Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for displaying a first image represented by a first set of data as a second image represented by a second set of data that is different than the first set of data, in which the first image is included in an electronic document. In accordance with exemplary embodiments of the present invention, the first set of data corresponding to the first image is received. The second set of data is produced by transforming the first set of data into at least one of a vector image representation and a textual description of the first image. The second image is substituted for the first image in the electronic document. An electronic link is established from the second image to the first image, such that the first image can be retrieved from a database using the second image.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 18, 2002Publication date: January 22, 2004Inventors: Henry W.
