  • Publication number: 20090083790
Abstract: In one embodiment of the invention, an apparatus and method for video browsing, summarization, and/or retrieval, based on video scene segmentation and categorization is disclosed. Video shots may be detected from video data. Key frames may be selected from the shots. A shot similarity graph may be composed based on the key frames. Using normalized cuts on the graph, scenes may be segmented. The segmented scenes may be categorized based on whether the segmented scene is a parallel or serial scene. One or more representative key frames may be selected based on the scene categorization.

  • Publication number: 20080244587
Abstract: A thread scheduler may be used in a chip multiprocessor or symmetric multiprocessor system to schedule threads to processors. The scheduler may determine the bandwidth utilization of the two threads in combination and whether that utilization exceeds the threshold value. If so, the threads may be scheduled on different processor clusters that do not have the same paths between the common memory and the processors. If not, then the threads may be allocated on the same processor cluster that shares cache among processors.

  • Patent number: 7353217
Abstract: A method and system for ordering a priority for a function to receive any type of processing resources in a system that includes a plurality of functions. The invention includes identifying a plurality of instances of the functions that use processing resources. The invention then determines an importance of at least one of said instances by using fuzzy logic in a fuzzy inference system.

  • Patent number: 7275071
Abstract: The present invention is suitable for use in a communications system that downloads applications over a broadcast file system (BFS). An application services interface (ASI) provides the BFS an application file including a configuration file and an image file that are stored in a service manager in set-tops. Additionally, the ASI provides the BFS a content file that is included in the application file. The provided content file is separated into service files, where each service file is associated with a particular service. When a set-top requests a service, the associated service file is subsequently loaded onto the set-top. Alternatively, a service file is stored in memory until such time as another service is requested, which at that point the older service file is removed from memory to allow space for the newly requested service file.

  • Publication number: 20070108916
Abstract: The invention discloses an LED driving circuit and a controlling method thereof, comprising a power switch and a current sampling unit, as well as a voltage comparison unit for comparing the voltage obtained by the current sampling unit with a first reference voltage; an input voltage sampling unit for converting the sampled input voltage into a current signal; a timing unit for controlling the off-time of the power switch or presetting a fixed off-time; a logical unit for controlling the power switch by means of a power switch driving unit and for controlling the timing switch in the timing unit. The method for controlling the LED driving circuit comprises the step of modulating the off-time of the power switch with the input voltage or the step of presetting a fixed off-time. The invention can be used in LED light cluster driving with the power factor greater than 0.95.

  • Patent number: 7197449
Abstract: A method for entity name and jargon term recognition and extraction. An embodiment of the present invention uses a suffix tree data structure to determine frequently occurring phrases. In one embodiment text to be analyzed is preprocessed. The text is then separated into clauses and a suffix tree is created for the text. The suffix tree is used to determine repetitious segments. Unrecognized text fragment, occurring with a high frequency, have a comparably high probability of being a name entity or jargon term. The set of repetitious segments is then filtered to obtain a set of possible entity names and jargon terms.

  • Publication number: 20060212786
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus are provided to generate a Viterbi path for a DBN. The DBN is converted to a chain of junction trees, where each tree represents a decision-making process. The trees are forwardly iterated and the Viterbi path is generated during the forward iteration (forward pass). This is achieved by maintaining backpointers to previously processed junction trees during the forward pass and dynamically assembling the Viterbi with each pair of junction trees during the forward pass.

  • Patent number: 7050576
Abstract: A state machine for attenuating the transition into and out of NLP state to reduce voice clipping and to reduce echo leak in a voice over packet signal transmission. The state machine interposes two additional transitional states between the NLP active state and the NLP inactive state to eliminate the sharp transition of NLP activity. An NLP entering state is used to gradually reduce the mixing ratio of echo and voice to attenuate the transition from passage of echo in the NLP inactive state to the suppression of echo in the NLP active state. An NLP exiting state is used to gradually increase (ramping the change) the mixing ratio of echo and voice to attenuate the transition from suppression of echo in the NLP active state to passage of echo in the NLP inactive state.

  • Patent number: 6996231
Abstract: A method of converging a step size control for an adaptive filter of a communication channel including: (1) initializing a nominal step size value and a penalty point value; (2) combining the nominal step size value and the penalty point value to generate a step size value; and (3) dynamically changing the step size value in response to a characteristic measure of a quality of the communication channel. The step size value is changed by adjusting the nominal step size value, the penalty point value, or both. In a preferred embodiment the penalty point value is adjusted dependant on: (1) a tone originating from the far end (2) full convergence (3) the power level of a residual error signal (4) the channel's near-end background noise and/or (5) weak double-talk in the communication channel. The nominal step size value is adjusted when an achieved initial combined loss is about 15 dB or greater and is reset by divergence.

  • Patent number: 6961421
Abstract: Echo return loss is analyzed to determine if the near end connection of a communication link has hybrid induced echo. If the echo return loss is above a threshold value for a predetermined period, than no echo or very little echo is present. The lack of echo is treated as a four wire connection and the near end signal is processed accordingly. If the foreground and background filter update relationship indicates the presence of a hybrid or if the echo return loss drops below a second threshold, the condition of the near end signal is treated as a two wire hybrid induced echo. The analysis of the near end signal continues and treatment of the signal may switch between four wire and two wire any number of times during a communication link.

  • Patent number: 6952472
Abstract: A method of estimating an echo return loss of a communication link measures the peak power value of a signal received from a far end of a communication link and the corresponding peak power value of a signal received from the near end of the communication link. When the near end signal is free from near end voice and excessive noise, the near end corresponding peak will be the echo of the far end power. The far end power is monitored and when a peak is detected, a period, which can be equal to a filter length period, is initiated. When the period has run, the delay line attached to the near end is polled to determine the peak power in the delay line. This peak power will correspond to the far end peak. If a peak, exceeding the first peak is detected before the period has run, the period is reinitiated. The echo return loss estimate is calculated as a ratio of the far-end peak power value to the near-end peak power value.

  • Publication number: 20040070510
Abstract: A moisture monitoring device is provided having a resonant tag and a remote detector. The resonant tag comprises a plastic substrate having holes punched through it, a capacitor plate on one side that is connected to a second capacitor plate and inductor coils on the other side. The resonant tag comprises a live LC circuit having a natural resonant frequency that does not activate the detector. The resonant tag is affixed to absorbing materials in a diaper or other sanitary undergarment. Upon the introduction of moisture into the circuit, the resonant frequency is eliminated as the circuit is deactivated and an alarm in the detector is triggered. At this point it would be apparent to a parent or caretaker that the diaper is wet and in need of replacement.
