  • Publication number: 20120003285
Abstract: A method includes separately conveying a first liquid solution (36) containing the first material and a second liquid solution (46) containing a liquid polyelectrolyte. The method includes forming of a series of drops (78) at the outlet (50), each drop (78) including a central core (80) formed from a first solution (36) and a peripheral film (82) formed from a second solution. The method includes immersing each drop (78) in a gelling solution (70) containing a reagent capable of reacting with the polyelectrolyte of the film (82) so as to form the gelled casing. The second solution (40) contains at least one surfactant before the former contacts the first solution (36).

  • Publication number: 20110139609
Abstract: A water body self-generating electrolytic reduction module is applied to a water body containing oxidizing substances. The water body self-generating electrolytic reduction module includes a self-generating unit and an electrolysis unit. The self-generating unit is coupled to the electrolysis unit. When circulating in a water transmission pipeline, the water body drives the self-generating unit to generate an electric power and deliver the electric power to the electrolysis unit. Upon receiving the electric power, the electrolysis unit performs electrolysis on the water body circulating to the electrolysis unit, so that a reduction reaction occurs to the oxidizing substances in the water body.

  • Patent number: 7776927
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to emulsions such as multiple emulsions, and to methods and apparatuses for making emulsions, and techniques for using the same. A multiple emulsion generally describes larger droplets that contain one or more smaller droplets therein which, in some cases, can contain even smaller droplets therein, etc. Emulsions, including multiple emulsions can be formed in certain embodiments with generally precise repeatability, and can be tailored to include any number of inner droplets, in any desired nesting arrangement, within a single outer droplet. In addition, in some aspects of the invention, one or more droplets may be controllably released from a surrounding droplet.

  • Publication number: 20100136544
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to droplets and/or emulsions, such as multiple emulsions. In some cases, the droplets and/or emulsions may be used in assays, and in certain embodiments, the droplet or emulsion may be hardened to form a gel. In some aspects, a heterogeneous assay can be performed using a gel. For example, a droplet may be hardened to form a gel, where the droplet contains a cell, DNA, or other suitable species. The gel may be exposed to a reactant, and the reactant may interact with the gel and/or with the cell, DNA, etc., in some fashion. For example, the reactant may diffuse through the gel, or the hardened particle may liquefy to form a liquid state, allowing the reactant to interact with the cell. As a specific example, DNA contained within a gel particle may be subjected to PCR (polymerase chain reaction) amplification, e.g., by using PCR primers able to bind to the gel as it forms. As the DNA is amplified using PCR, some of the DNA will be bound to the gel via the PCR primer.

  • Patent number: 7725337
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for efficiently quantifying the economic impact of retiming flights without the necessity of implementing the traditional airline forecasting system from scratch. A forecast module computes the difference in impact prior to and after the retiming of a flight. A flight grouping module, using the computed difference in impact, generates a new schedule, which is used by the forecast module to generate new changes in impact, until the schedule converges. A flyable module generates a list of retimed flights based on the converged schedule for resolving operational infeasibilities of the latter. The forecast module generates a profit for each of the retimed flights, which is used by a scheduling module to improve the schedule, which is used by the forecast module to revise the economic impacts for the list of all retimed flights. This process continues until no further economic improvement can be made.

  • Patent number: 7390247
Abstract: A chopsticks structure, comprises a holding part and a clipping part, wherein the outer peripheral surface of said clipping part raises outwardly toward the tail end to form an elevation angle preferably in the range of 3-10 degree, such that, during clipping foods, the fulcrum of the holding force can be increased so as to favor the clipping of the food. Further, when said clipping part is configured as a tetragonal column, the contact between said clipping part and the food can be a linear or facial contact, such that the user can clip and hold securely food having smooth surface.

  • Publication number: 20060008916
Abstract: The invention put forward an improved method for isotope dilution analysis of strontium using mass spectrometer. The sample of strontium is measured by a multi-collector mass spectrometer which equipped with no less than five collectors. The isotopes of strontium are statically collected by the collectors: ion beams with different mass numbers will be collected by different collectors. The voltages of the outputs of the collectors are read and amplified by a dynamic virtual amplifier. Then equations which include some variables and the output voltages of every amplifiers are established. The solutions of the equations will be the isotope ratios of the sample being measured. The invention can combine two analyses, one for isotope ratio and the other for concentration of strontium, together into one so that the measurement procedure is simplified.

  • Publication number: 20050229406
Abstract: A piece of composite tableware and a method of manufacturing the same, the tableware comprises a main part of an utensil and a handle, the method is characterized by: the main part including a utility portion and a handle-connecting portion is integrally shaped, an opening is provided on an outer end of the handle-connecting portion, a fixing hole is provided at the opening; the handle is formed by injection shaping, extruding and melting, and is tightly connected to the interior of the handle-connecting portion through the opening to tightly connect with the main part. Integrally shaping the tableware makes cleansing the connecting areas become easier, and injection shaping to connect the main part and the handle increases the connecting strength. In addition, hollow barrel structure reduces the cost. The method is applicable to manufacturing of spoons, forks and bottle cap openers etc.

  • Patent number: 6895123
Abstract: Disclosed is focus control method for Delta-Sigma based image formation devices in which a steering term and a focusing term of a delay formula are respectively quantized, and corresponding two channels at both sides of the probe are synchronized by a delay produced during dynamic focusing. During synchronizing the two channels, two numeral values with equal absolute value but with opposite signs are respectively inserted so as to eliminate extra noise the signals are after summing up, and controlling common delay of the two channels is performed by same one controller. After summing up the inserted two values, the dynamic aperture control of the Delta-Sigma based image formation device can be effectively realized and noise during dynamic focusing also is eliminated thereby achieving an ideal single bit output.
