  • Patent number: 4013569
Abstract: An improved aqueous anionic surfactant system for providing low interfacial tensions against oil is formed by including an aromatic ether polysulfonate in the system. This improves the tolerance of the system toward salts of monovalent and/or multivalent cations, and also causes emulsions formed between the oil and the oil-displacing system to be less viscous and less stable.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 15, 1975
Date of Patent: March 22, 1977
    Assignee: Shell Oil Company
Inventors: Ying C. Chiu, Harold J. Hill
  • Patent number: 3943059
Abstract: In an aqueous anionic surfactant system, the multivalent cation tolerance is improved by the presence of both a solute which inhibits crystal growth and a solute which forms crystalline precipitates of multivalent cations.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 17, 1974
Date of Patent: March 9, 1976
    Assignee: Shell Oil Company
    Inventor: Ying C. Chiu
