  • Patent number: 7909417
Abstract: A braking control system and method for a vehicle improves vehicle stability and steerability. When a braking torque is being applied and a road disturbance is detected, the braking torque may be reduced as the vehicle traverses the road disturbance. Subsequently, when the road disturbance has been traversed, the braking control system may allow the application of braking torque as requested by a braking device. The reduction in braking torque when traversing road disturbances minimizes the physical impact experienced by the vehicle wheels.

  • Patent number: 7827964
Abstract: A fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine includes a fuel injector pocket, formed within a cylinder head, for housing an injector which sprays fuel into a combustion chamber defined by the cylinder head and a piston crown. The injector is mounted with an isolator which is loaded at a lower, elastic rate during lower power operation, with the elastic load element being stacked solid and subject to higher rate column loading during high power operation of the engine and injection system. The isolator controls unwanted injector ticking noise, while protecting the integrity of the injector's tip seal.

Date of Patent: November 9, 2010

  • Patent number: 7823565
Abstract: A fuel injection system for internal combustion engine includes an injector mounted within a pocket formed in the cylinder head, and an isolator which defines a radial clearance gap with the injector pocket. The isolator expands radially outwardly into a clearance gap in response to axially directed force imposed upon the isolator by the injector, so that a dual rate force/displacement effect is achieved by the isolator.

  • Patent number: 7032723
Abstract: A tuned mass damper for sound-dampening brake squeal noise is located within a hole formed in a brake component such as a backplate supporting a brake pad. The location of the hole and the weight and geometry of the tuned mass damper are tailored to provide effective damping for the particular frequencies that are to be eliminated in the brake system. Locating the tuned mass damper inside of a hole in the component has packaging and manufacturing advantages, and results in a tuned mass damper that is less susceptible to damage when in use. The hole may be blind, the bottom of the hole being thin enough to serve as a spring member to which a vibration damping mass is attached. In one embodiment, the tuned mass damper is a module adapted for insertion into the hole in the brake backplate. Contact between the module and inner surfaces of the hole transfers mechanical vibration of the backplate to the tuned mass damper.
