  • Publication number: 20040079321
Abstract: The Quasiturbine (Qurbine in short) described in patent U.S. Pat. No. 6,164,263 uses a rotor arrangement peripherally supported by four rolling carriages, the carriages taking the pivoting blade pressure-load, of the blades forming the rotor, and transferring the load to the opposite contoured housing wall. For the same, similar or other applications, the present invention discloses a central, annular, rotor support for the rotor geometry defined by the pivoting blades and associated wheel-bearings, while still maintaining the important center-free engine characteristic. The pressure-load on each pivoting blade is taken either by its own set of wheel-bearings rolling on annular tracks attached to the central area of lateral side covers forming part of the casing, or is cancelled out in symmetrically pressurized fluid energy converter mode through the central holding action of annular power sleeves.

  • Publication number: 20030225890
Abstract: In an extended application network, where a server may execute applications on behalf of a user at a “dumb” client device, operation continuity is maintained through use of a state token. The server periodically provides to the client device one or more “state tokens,” which are stored at the client device. If, at some later time, the client device is commanded by the same or another server to furnish the state token, the stateless device does so. Typically, such commands will be received when communication between the client and the first server is lost due to equipment malfunction or other cause. The state token permits the second server to identify an application that had been executing on behalf of the thin client device and to resume its execution at the point where the first server left off.

  • Patent number: 6636520
Abstract: A method and a system for establishing network tunnels are disclosed. In one embodiment, a transport action is identified in response to packet parameters. Once the transport action is determined, the transport action is pushed onto a pending stack. When a tunnel action is, subsequently, identified in response to the packet parameters, the tunnel action is also pushed onto the pending stack. Upon completion of rule evaluation, at least one tunnel is established according to a tunnel action stored in the pending stack. The action stored at the top of the pending stack is performed first and the action stored at the bottom of the pending stack is performed last.

  • Publication number: 20030123665
Abstract: A content decoder is split into a decoder core and remaining portions. The decoder core implements decryption of encrypted content according to a selected encryption scheme, and the remaining portions provide an interface between the decoder core and content presentation systems/devices. Isolating the selected encryption scheme within the decoder core allows the content decoder to be produced and delivered to end users before the encryption scheme has been selected or developed. A logical separation of the content decoder from the decryption core allows the decryption core software to be updated and/or changed as needed.

  • Publication number: 20030101294
Abstract: A method and architecture for enabling interaction between a remote device and a host computer. A service provided by the remote device is discovered, and a description pertaining to the service is retrieved by the host computer. A network communication link is the established between the remote device and the host computer based on connection information provided by the description. Host-side and client-side software service modules are run on the host and remote devices to enable interaction between the devices using a service protocol that is specific to the service. Various service protocols are provided, including a display service protocol and an input service protocol. Using commands provided by each protocol, the host computer is enabled to control the service remotely by pushing data and appropriate commands to the remote device, whereupon these commands are processed by the client-side service module to perform service operations that employ the sent data.

  • Publication number: 20030046337
Abstract: Providing web services using an interface includes hosting content of a web page at a first mechanism that is capable of responding to a client request, storing at least some of the content at a second mechanism that is capable of independently responding to a client request and that is accessible by the first mechanism, and providing at least some of the content stored at the second mechanism to a client in response to a request for content sent to the first mechanism by the client.

  • Publication number: 20020147832
Abstract: Framing and processing messages includes preparing information included in a stream of information that requires reliable transmission from a source to a destination for transmission across a network link, separately preparing other information included in the stream that does not require reliable transmission to the destination for transmission across the network link, and preparing the stream for transmission across the network link.

  • Publication number: 20020146016
Abstract: Transmitting Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) packets includes transmitting packets over a network path from a source to a destination using TCP in which receipt of at least some of the packets from the source at a destination is acknowledged by the destination to the source, the transmitting including a retransmission of the packets within a subpath of the network path, and managing acknowledgments of the retransmission of the packets within the subpath by a mechanism that is independent of the acknowledging by the source to the destination with respect to the transmitting of the packets over the network path.

  • Publication number: 20020146981
Abstract: A pair of shorter range radio frequency networks may be linked together using a longer range communication protocol that is not based on the same radio frequency protocol utilized by the shorter range radio frequency networks. Enumeration data from one of the shorter range networks may be exchanged over a longer range network to combine the two shorter range networks using proxy devices such as cellular telephones. This may allow devices in a shorter range network to communicate over a longer range.

  • Publication number: 20020144141
Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for preventing security vulnerabilities resulting from buffer overruns. According to one embodiment of the present invention, CALL is modified to place a return address on the stack, and then a random amount of space is added to the stack. This random value is placed in a known place on the stack, or kept in a non-accessible CPU register. The rest of the stack is built normally. When RET is called it finds the number of bytes added to the stack and finds the return address on the stack and returns as normal. This method allows a simple hardware solution that will not be visible to the software, yet provide a powerful deterrent to hackers looking to exploit buffer overrun vulnerabilities in software. Without any software modifications we would be able to deter a significant number of buffer overrun attacks. By affecting components lower on the environment it is possible to influence a larger set of software.

  • Patent number: 6164263
Abstract: While most rotary engines use the principle of volume variation between a curve and a moving cord of fixed length, this new engine concept uses a four degrees of freedom X, Y, .theta., .PHI. rotor, confined inside an internal housing contour, and does not require a central shaft or support. The invention is an assembly of four carriages supporting the pivots of four pivoting blades forming a variable-shape rotor. This rotor rolls just like a roller bearing on the surface of an housing internal contour wall shaped like a skating rink. During the rotation, the rotor pivoting blades align alternatively in a lozenge and a square configuration. All ports are radial in the housing and/or axial on the lateral side covers. Since the compression and expansion strokes start and end simultaneously, an ignition flame transfer slot is used to maintain a continuous combustion while four strokes are completed in every rotation.
