The suds removal method includes sensing the generation of suds during a washing cycle, and removing the suds by adjusting the activity of suds when the generation of suds is sensed.

Abstract: A washing machine and a suds sensing method thereof, in which a generation of suds is precisely sensed using discharge characteristics of suds in a water discharging operation. The suds sensing method of a washing machine includes determining whether a water level reaches a water discharge completion level in a predetermined water discharging time in a water discharging operation, determining whether the water level reaches a suds sensing level in a predetermined suds discharging time by controlling a drainage device such that the drainage device is turned on and off when the water level does not reach the water discharge completion level in the predetermined water discharging time, and sensing the suds by controlling the drainage device such that the drainage device is turned on and off in a predetermined range of the water level when the water level reaches the suds sensing level in the predetermined suds discharging time.

Abstract: A washing machine for preventing contaminants from degenerating and laundry from being damaged when water is supplied in a washing operation, and a method for controlling the supply of water thereof. Particularly, a washing machine for supplying cold water to laundry for sufficiently soaking the laundry and then supplying warm water at a high temperature to the laundry so as to prevent contaminants from degenerating, and a method for controlling the supply of water of the washing machine, thereby preventing the deterioration of washing performance of the washing machine. The method includes determining whether or not a water supply operation is selected, supplying cold water to soak laundry when it is determined that the water supply operation is selected and supplying warm water, after the soaking of the laundry in the cold water, to prevent contaminants of the laundry from degenerating.

Abstract: A drum washing machine and a method of controlling the same. The locked state of a door is released for a predetermined period of time without interrupting water supply or water drainage for a user to open the door, during supplying or draining of water, when a washing or dewatering operation of the drum washing machine is initiated or when the washing or dewatering operation of the drum washing machine is resumed after the washing or dewatering operation of the drum washing machine is interrupted. Consequently, additional laundry may be safely and conveniently put into a rotary tub or the laundry or foreign matter may be removed from the rotary tub with improved washing and dewatering efficiency.
