    Abstract: An efficient method for producing a hydrogen-containing gas for a fuel cell by using a gas produced by reforming reaction of an organic compound is disclosed. The method comprises the following steps: adding an oxygen-containing gas to a hydrogen-containing gas containing carbon monoxide to form a mixed gas, and bringing the mixed gas into contact with a catalyst comprising a ruthenium metal as a main component and having a carbon monoxide adsorption of not less than 1 mmol/g-ruthenium and a carbon monoxide adsorption index of not less than 0.5, to thereby oxidize and remove carbon monoxide.

    Abstract: A process is provided for producing a cyclic alcohol by catalytic hydration of a cyclic olefin in a liquid phase, which comprises using as a catalyst a zeolite having a population ratio of acid sites on the external surface to total acid sites of 0.07/1 or more, conducting the hydration reaction in a reaction zone in the copresence of an oil phase mainly containing cyclic olefin and an aqueous phase mainly containing water and the catalyst while controlling the cyclic alcohol produced so that the concentration thereof in the oil phase is more than that in the aqueous phase, and separating and recovering the cyclic alcohol produced from the oil phase.

    Abstract: Alkyl 4,4'-(ethylenedioxy)bis-benzoates having improved properties such as anti-oxidation and anti-coloration are prepared in high yield and selectivity by, at the first step, reacting an excess alkyl p-hydroxybenzoate with a recycling alkyl p-(2-chloro-ethoxy)benzoate with heating in the presence of an alkali carbonate and an inert organic solvent until almost said alkyl p-(2-chloroethoxy)benzoate is consumed to produce an alkyl 4,4'-(ethylenedioxy)bis-benzoate and at the second step adding ethylene dichloride to the reaction system and continuing the heating to produce an alkyl p-(2-chloroethoxy)benzoate which is recycled, and separating the alkyl 4,4'-(ethylenedioxy)bis-benzoate produced.
