  • Patent number: 11863719
Abstract: A scanner includes a reading unit, a reversing unit, a discharge unit, a mounting portion, and a pressing portion. The discharge unit discharges a document that is reversed by the reversing unit. On the mounting portion, the document discharged by the discharge unit is mounted. The pressing portion presses the document toward the mounting portion. The pressing portion has a moving member that is provided and configured to move toward the mounting portion, and an elastic member that applies an elastic force to the moving member so that the moving member comes into contact with the document on the mounting portion.

  • Patent number: 11639278
Abstract: A media feeding apparatus includes a media mounting section, a first feed roller, a media pressing section for pressing media sheets against the first feed roller, and a pressing force adjuster for adjusting the pressing force of the media pressing section. The controller sets the pressing force of the media pressing section to first pressing force and drives the first feed roller and the second feed roller in a forward rotation direction, and in a case in which the first detector detects a passage of a leading edge of the media sheet and the second detector detects no passage of the leading edge of the media sheet after predetermined first set time has passed, the controller continues the rotation of the first feed roller and the second feed roller with second pressing force of the media pressing section greater than or equal to the first pressing force.

  • Patent number: 11597617
Abstract: A medium feeding apparatus includes a feed roller that feeds media. A separation roller nips the media together with the feed roller to separate it and is rotated in a first direction to feed the media. A motor applies driving torque to the separation roller in a second direction opposite to the first direction. A torque limiter, when rotation torque applied to the separation roller in the first direction exceeds a preset upper torque limit, causes the separation roller to rotate at idle in the first direction independently of the driving torque. During feeding operations, including feeding of first and second media, a controller that controls the motor provides a break period in which the motor is not driven. The break period contains the timing when a rear edge of the first medium leaves a nip position between the feeding and separation rollers.

  • Publication number: 20200264161
Abstract: A cancer risk evaluation method is provided, which makes it possible to estimate the risk of suffering from cancer of a subject with high accuracy, which do not have the disadvantages of early degeneration and high cost that arise in the case where the in-blood amino acid concentrations are utilized, and which are capable of estimating which site of cancer a subject has. This method includes the step S1 of measuring the concentrations of a set of evaluation elements contained in a serum sample 2 taken from a subject, the step S2 of applying concentration data of the set of elements thus measured and age data of the subject to a discriminant function or functions for discriminating to which of a case group and a control group the subject belongs to perform an operation; and the step S3 of obtaining an indicator for discriminating whether or not the subject suffers from any type of cancer based on a correlation among the set of evaluation elements obtained in the step S2.

  • Patent number: 10071869
Abstract: A medium feeder includes a medium mounter, a pair of edge guides, and a sheet number limiter. The medium mounter has a mounting surface on which a medium to be fed is placed. The pair of edge guides is provided at the medium mounter to guide side edges of the medium in a direction that intersects with a feeding direction in which the medium is fed. The sheet number limiter is provided at the pair of edge guides to limit the number of media mountable on the medium mounter. The sheet number limiter has an extension that extends in a feeding direction of the medium such that a distance between the extension and the mounting surface increases downstream.
