  • Patent number: 5611131
Abstract: In an automatic boot mounting method or an apparatus for practicing the method, a wheel cylinder is held at a predetermined position, and a boot is mounted on the tapered shaft portion of an inserter. The small-diameter shaft portion of the inserter is held with an inserter moving device with the large-diameter shaft portion of the inserter faced to the cylinder body. With the inserter set along the central axis of the cylinder body, the boot is moved to the large-diameter shaft portion of the inserter by a guide plate. The inserter is moved along the central axis of the cylinder body by the inserter moving device until the end face of the large-diameter shaft portion abuts against the end face of the protrusion end portion of the piston.

  • Patent number: 5427578
Abstract: In a pulley unit of belt-type continuously variable transmission, wherein a movable sheave on a pulley shaft is moved toward and away from a stationary sheave by means of a hydraulic servo device, and a movable cylinder secured to the movable sheave defines a hydraulic chamber between itself and a stationary plunger on the pulley shaft. The movable cylinder is of a ring-shape having an enlarged-diameter cylindrical portion, a reduced-diameter cylindrical portion, and a back wall portion integrally joining the two cylindrical portions radially. The reduced-diameter cylindrical portion is fitted on a hub of the movable sheave. A detachable cover member is provided around the cylinder and the plunger to define a hydraulic balance chamber. The movable sheave can be used commonly for different sizes of the movable cylinder, and the interior of the servo device can be exposed for maintenance by removing the cover member.

  • Patent number: 5124895
Abstract: A headlamp for a motor vehicle comprises a power unit including an inverter, a starting circuit connected to the inverter, an electric discharge lamp bulb connected to the starting circuit, and a shell for holding the starting circuit and the electric discharge lamp bulb. A lens and a cap are fixedly mounted to the shell at the front and rear open ends thereof, respectively. The shell and the cap are coated with a metal film to provide shielding from radio noise due to high frequency pulses.

  • Patent number: 5083065
Abstract: A lighting device for an electric discharge lamp comprises an LC series resonant circuit, and control means for controlling an inverter circuit. Immediately after the occurrence of a dielectric breakdown in the electric discharge lamp. AC voltage with a relatively low frequency is applied to the lamp so as to pass a heavy current therethrough. Subsequently, the frequency is increased stepwise by a relatively small variation until a terminal voltage of the electric discharge lamp reaches a predetermined value. Thereafter, the frequency is increased stepwise by a relatiely large variation until the electric discharge lamp assumes a discharge stable state.

  • Patent number: 4844221
Abstract: A control system for a selector mechanism for a vehicle provided with a clutch and a continuously variable transmission having operational ranges such as a driving range and a reverse range. A synchronizer is provided for selecting either of forward and reverse gears. A hydraulic actuator is provided to respond to the operation of a selector lever for operating the synchronizer for the selection of the ranges. A shift switch is provided to produce a shift signal when the synchronizer engages with a selected gear. A control unit is provided to respond to the shift signal to engage the clutch after the engagement of the synchronizer.
