    Abstract: According to one embodiment, a winding interlayer short-circuit detection apparatus includes a processor configured to perform at least an interlayer short-circuit detecting process to detect, based on a difference between a measurement value of a field current in a field winding of a brushless exciter and a reference value, and based on a difference between a calculated value of an armature reaction voltage induced in the field winding of the brushless exciter and a reference value, a presence or absence of an interlayer short-circuit that may occur in any of the field winding of the brushless exciter, an armature winding of the brushless exciter, and a field winding of a rotary electric machine body.
